Guest guest
I have geen helped greatly by Van Vorous and her IBS diet and knowledge base which she shares on her website. Even if you DON " T have IBS, this diet might be a great place to start finding out if your body IS sensitive to some foods. There are tons of features on her site, including a blog and 'current events' in the field of medicine, including fibro, CFS, etc. I try to go there at least once a week, and I also get her newsletter. Since I first found her site right after I moved here, and had no doctor and was having the IBS attack from H--L!! (I did try making a doctor's appointment after the 3rd day of sitting in the bathroom non-stop, and taking OTC anti-diarrhoea meds by the handfuls, but I couldn't find a doctor who could fit me in for less than two weeks. Of course, I was doing things like eating aged cheeses and all the other 'food tricks' we hear help stop the 'runs'. I turned to the internet on about the 5th day of agony, and found her site. I discovered every single thing I had been doing up to that point was WRONG!!! I had nothing to lose, her 'cure' cost no extra money (the book does, of course, but she has the basics outlined on her site, as well as recipes) My attack stopped within 12 hours of implementing her suggestions!! No, I do NOT believe it was a coincidence. I ordered her first book (now have her second as well) and as long as I follow the diet...(there isn't a 'one size fits all' either, you can eat things that may affect some people if they don't have bad effects on you)...anyway, as long as I don't 'cheat' I seldom have an attack, and if I do, it doesn't last long. I use Lomotil, which I have been using for about 30 years, I think, to stop the attacks. Unfortunately it is by prescription only, and I was out of it when I moved here. Anyway, I do cheat sometimes, and always 'pay' for it. If you are interested, her website is: http://www.helpforibs.com/ I hope this helps.
