Guest guest
Cheri, I commend your committment to your son. I worked as a Respiratory Therapist in a NICU so I know how hard it is. As for keeping up with his supply. Have you tried shorter more frequent pumpings? The different herbs I know of are Fenugreek, Blessed Thistle, Fennel, Brewer's Yeast, and Hops. I have also heard that the homeopathic remedy Lactuca Virosa available at http://www.homeopathyovernight.com is highly effective. Drinking a non-alcoholic beer can be helpful. Do you know anyone who would let you breastfeed their baby on occasion to help increase your supply? I know of another woman in a similiar situation as you. I will contact her and ask her permission to give you her email address if you would like. Anyway welcome to the list and great job providing your baby with the best nutrition to be found. Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding info & resources Re: Welcome to breastfeeding Hi everyone. I am Cheri and new to the list. I don't actually breast feed, but pump. Why? Because my son is a dysfuntional feeder. We are currently working with a flexible tip sippy cup, and even then, he doesn't always take all his milk (we have a feeding specialist working with us). He has a g tube (a tube in his stomach for feeding). So, determined to give our son what is best for him, I have been using a pump for the 8 1/2 months of his life (he was a preemie and should only be 6 months old). I have a very supportive, helpful husband. My problem lately is keeping up with his supply need. I am not quite supplying enough (approx. 100 cc 7 times a day). Fortunately, I have milk in the freezer from when he didn't take as much. And, he is now taking some puree foods. His home health nurse is actually a pediatric nurse practitioner. She has given me herbs and information for helping increase the milk supply. I would appreciate any advice you may have on helping me to keep up with my sons needs. Guest guest
Cheri- Welcome to the list! I don't think you'll find a nicer, more supportive group of people anywhere! I'm a sahm to 3 kids with another one due in Aug. I feel totally inadequate to deal with any of the questions that you posed, so I won't, but I do want to tell you that I admire all that you've done. My 1st was born just 4 wks early and had numerous feeding probs ( though not to the extent that you're speaking of ) I never nursed her, never knew my options and probably wouldn't have the patience that you seem to. Best of luck to you and keep in touch! S.
Guest guest
I have been drinking Mother's Milk Tea which I buy at my local grocery store they have it on the health food aisle. I had a supply problem early on and that has worked for me. (NC)

Guest guest
Cheri, It is the hops that helps to increase your supply. A dark non-alcoholic beer like Kaliber has more hops than the lighter ones. I am still waiting to hear back from her.
