Guest guest
Hi, We have been gf/cf/sf, following Feingold and limiting fruits for my son who is 6 and has autism. We met with a DAN! dr. for the first time and he suggested we start SCD. I have no idea how to switch at this point. My son's diet is already limited and I am afraid to put fenols back in his diet. He had an apple recently and it took him 3 days to get back to where he was prior. The book is on it's way but if there is anyone on the list that can advise me on switching gears, I sure would appreciate. We've only been doing gf/cf/everything free for 2 mos. and I finally got the hang of it and now we need to switch.. HELP.. please:) Thank you, a
Guest guest
Hi a, I commend you for being willing to take a look at SCD and try to make the switch. It is a daunting task to try to figure out what is legal vs. illegal (SCD lingo). But if you can go gf/cf/sf you are more than half way there, so take heart! You can do this! The way I started was to take the foods that he had been eating that were allowed and just fed him that for every meal. He was awesome about it. Basically he ate cooked carrots, cooked chicken, pear sauce (homemade) and diluted Welch's grape juice (50/50). I moved into chicken pancakes (pureed chicken and eggs fried like a pancake), jello made from gelatin and diluted grape juice and cooked green beans. My son , also 6 has been on the diet since June and is doing really well. We went to the dentist on Saturday and he actually let the dentist put the rotating brush in is mouth for the first time. He was really calm and when he didn't like the spit vacuum he just calmly said " I've had enough of that " . I was floored as we had a tough time just getting him to open his mouth at our last pre SCD visit. If this is right for your son once you start to see improvements it will make every pear you peel worth it!! Review the pecanbread site well as it has tons of info and recipes to get you started. This group is also a great way to gleen info too.
