Guest guest
My son has been SCD (following the ASD intro diet) for 2 days now. No apparent problem on intro diet (although he seemed hungry a lot of the time). He was constipated when we started and still constipated now. My question is, can we add something new now? I know I read a response from Elaine to someone w/ constipation on breakingtheviciouscycle.com where she told them to do intro for 2 days, then add 1 daily muffin along w/ cooked fruits and vegetables. It went on from there with future instructions. So should I follow this same protocol? Thanks everyone for your help and support. See the middle of page 71 in BTVC about what to do after the introduction diet and also check out The Stages on the food preparation link of the website: www.pecanbread.com The Stages are just a guideline and you do not need to follow exactly them but can slowly add foods in any order with these exceptions: yogurt, wait at least a month beans and seeds much later peanuts in shells also later These items are discussed elsewhere n BTVC Carol F. Guest guest
Welcome to the list Anita, > My son has been SCD (following the ASD intro diet) for 2 days now. > No apparent problem on intro diet (although he seemed hungry a lot > of the time). That is pretty common. You can give him more food, just try to balance out meat and veggies etc. so there isn't too much of any one thing. Many notice that appetite increases at the beginning of the diet. A couple of reasons for this are - some kids were in pain before and didn't want to eat, now no more pain so they're hungry - they are changing from rumen type digestion to actual human digestion - that change-over will require more (food) energy - kids often go through growth spurts upon starting SCD. Their injured guts slowed down growth and once they start absorbing nutrients their little bodies make up for lost time. Once they adjust their appetites usually settle down - not including the periodic growth spurts all kids go through. .. He was constipated when we started and still > constipated now. If after the mufin the constipation continues you can try the constipation protocol http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/constipation ..htm also please check out http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/constipation _continued.htm .. Part of it may be the adjustment to the diet since you are so new to it. If the constipation gets worse with the mufin you might want to try using nut butter to make the muffin.
