Hi Bill,

Ouch. I am sorry you ahve to have this. The open lung biopsy is done in a

hospital operating room under general anesthesia (while you are unconscious

and pain-free).

Hi all. I am due to have a lung biopsy and wondered if anyone out

there could tell me what to expect. Like how much does it HURT!!!

etc. Do they put you under for it or what?

Thanks for you're inputs and time.

Bill :-)

Hi Jill. Ok but is there another type. you said open lung biopsy.

That sounds like they open you up. The nurse practioner told me about

them putting something down my passage to get to it? Is that the same

thing? They have not said anything yet about general anesthesia.

Hi Bill, yes, there is a needle aspiration biopsy as well which is another

approach. For this test, you are awake and the area where the needle will

be inserted is numbed with local anaesthetic. A small incision may be

necessary depending upon the biopsy site and what the sample is they are

planning to take. The onyl pain involved is the discomfort of being

'frozen' which is no more painful then being numbed for stitches really.

Hi there. Yes it sounds icky to me too. lol. More like Ewwwww. Since

I have never had any operations the thought of them sticking

something down inside me does not go over well. Thankyou for your

thoughts and prayers though. :-)

Well never having had stitches I don't know how painful that can be.

But it does sound a little better than the first method you mentioned.

Bill,

You'll be in my prayers, too.

Have you gotten a date as to when the biopsy will take place?

Will be praying you get a good nights sleep, and of course for you tomorrow.

Go to the test knowing that so many of us are behind you Bill, I am sure

this is a frightening thing for you and your mind so occupied with many

questions and fears. Hopefully after tomorrow, you'll have your answers and

the test will be minimal in terms of discomfort.

Let me know as soon as you can, how you are doing!
