There are no legal juice boxes.

Dole makes small cans of 100% pineapple juice, but they would need to

be diluted somehow.

I have a rubbermaid plastic reusable juice box and a cool sippy cup we

got at the aquarium. I fill it with diluted pineapple juice or

lemon/limeade for Sam and he's fine with that. If you can, you could

bring a big can of pineapple juice and a bottle of seltzer water and

have pineapple " soda " for everyone in the class, if you're worried

about her feeling different than everyone else. Sometimes it's nice

for our kids to have the same thing as everyone else in those situations.

Sorry Jenn,

No legal juice in boxes. Why not put fresh diluted juice into a plastic sealed

tumbler and decorate it?

Carol,

We have bought Tropicanna 100% Orange Juice in little, mini, one

serving cartons. Are these not legal?

We found them at our grocery store, next to the large cartons of 100%

Tropicanna Orange Juice (I believe they come in packages of six, with

straws!).

OK...gotta ask. Is it the packaging or what is in the juice box

itself?

We use RW Knudsen Family, organic pear juice.

The bottle ingredients are: Juice from ripe whole organic pears,

ascorbic acid (to maintain color) unsweetened.

The box ingredients are: Filtered water (sufficient to

reconstitute), organic pear juice concentrate, natural flavor,

ascorbic acid (vitamin c)

Now that I compared the bottle seems better than the box. Can

someone please chime in?

I guess he will have to just drink water for both lunch and snack at

school instead of a juice box. I'm not into the plastic cups ..Poor

guy.

TIA,

Marla

P.S. I hate school party's, why does everything revolve around food?

Knudsen pear juice is not SCD legal. So.... neither the bottles or the boxes are

okay in this case. Their " Just Juice " line is...... but the pear is not one of

them. There were some posts a long time ago on the list, explaining about the

concentrated sorbitol in apple and pear juices (commercially bottled/canned).

They're somewhere deep in the vaults of my old computer's harddrive,

though...... so maybe someone else could post them? (Pull-eeeeze?) It's fine to

juice your own pears and apples at home, though...... then you can easily stay

organic. :)

It's the juice, the pear concentrate and the possibility that because legally 2%

of the ingredients are not reequired to be disclosed there could be some sugar.

" natural flavor " is always suspect too.

Patti,

Thank you so much...what a kick in the gut...ouch..hee, hee! I want

the whole family to get started after Haloween and give it until

Christmas and review. I have been going around the house trying to

figure out what I have that he can eat. It looks like not much. We

have lots of rice and corn things for him. I do need to order my

flour soon to get baking the 'bribes' for the dinner table. I am

going to have to get my head out of the only pears for yeast kinda

thing and see where this takes us. I'll look into the just juice.

Thanks again,

It is what is in the juice boxes themselves not the packaging per se.

Sorry, but neither of these are on the legal list of juices. Legal

juices include Tropicana Pure premium OJ, (not the calcium version),

Dole Pineapple juice, Welches Pure Grape juice .

You could buy a bottle of juice, throw out hat's in it and fill it

with legal diluted juice.

Oh. I better not comment on this, except to say they drive me nuts

also.

Hi Marla,

I don't think any of the legal juices are organic, but there is the

option of juicing your own with organic fruit or veggies. For

example, there is a version of apple juice on the recipe section

that could be followed with pears to make pear juice, with or

without the extras - spices, oj etc. That recipe doesn't require a

juicer. Look under " Homemade Mulled Apple Juice " at

http://pecanbread.com/recipes.html in the Drinks section.

May I ask why not the calcium version? There is a

Tropicana Pure Premium Orange Tangerine juice and it

has calcium and vitamin D. Would like to try it. Ok

to use?

Sheila..... I think Elaine did OK the " Just Juice " line from Knudsen..... for

the ASD kids only. These might not be " officially " SCD legal, as far as the

wider SCD community.... but I know she did state this, way back when on the old

Lyris list, or pecanbread. I think most, if not all, of these are organic......

not sure. If anyone knows otherwise, please let me know so I can stop

recommending them. :)

Oooohhh.... sorry 'bout that. :)

<<I do need to order my

Ahhh..... you've gotta try the peanut butter brownies. They are DIVINE! Here's

the recipe:

1 cup peanut butter (natural, nothing but salt added)

1/2 cup honey

I egg

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Mix well..... pour into a greased 8 x 8 square pan (I use glass... not sure if

you have to). I also grease mine with a bit of coconut oil on a paper towell....

but you could do the same with butter or some other oil. The actual recipe says

bake at 350 degrees F..... but I set my oven a bit lower (335 or 340) because

the nut butter or flour recipes do tend to burn a little easily and it just

depends on your oven, so you may need to experiment. The total baking time is 25

minutes. I take them out at 15 minutes and put strips of foil over the edges

(just to sheild the area that's about 1.5 inches out from the edge of the pan)

to protect them from getting too overly brown for that last ten minutes. Your

whole family will LOVE these..... and they are just SO easy. :)

Marla,

Try making the peanut butter squash brownies. It's a great way

to hide a veggie. :) And they taste soooo good.

(Do squeeze the liquid out of the squash though or they will end

up too gooey in the middle from too much liquid in the recipe.)

I had to freeze the four that were left the other day to prevent the

whole pan from being gone in day.

The only Tropicana version that Elaine has checked out is the

Original Pure Premium Orange juice (No Pulp, Pulp, Lots of Pulp).

The calcium version is a new product. Elaine is concerned that

there may be other things added. Tropicana has been bought by Pepsi

and she is concerned that newer products may be tampered with.

Hi Patti,

You are right about the " Just Juices " . Ha, that's what happens with

sleep deprivation. ;)

Are any of the Just Juices organic? Hang on I'll check it out

Oh lookie, there are two organic " Just Juices " ,

The Just Juices line includes:

" Just " Juices:

>Just Black Cherry

>Just Blueberry

>Just Cranberry

>Just Pomegranate

>Organic Just Concord Grape

>Organic Just Tart Cherry

My local store only carries the JJ Cranberry and I hardly use it so

I often forget about them. Thanks for the reminder.

Just an FYI for newbies, it is only the Knudsen's Just Juice line

that is legal, the rest of Knudsen's is out.

Some juice information is already listed prominently on the bottom of page 77 in

BTVC and the Fopd preparation link on the Pecanbread web site. Is this what you

wanted added to the files marla Jo?:

1. The 2% rule: There is a rule that allows some ingredients that constitute

less than 2% of the total weight or volume unnecessary to report on the

ingredient list. This can include sugar and other illegal ingredients, since

these do not fall under the list of usual allergens.

2. Store-bought products often pass through many sets of hands before they are

put in the final package. For example, some juice concentrates can be made in

one plant and then shipped to another plant where water is added and then they

are bottled. The final producer can " honestly " say they did not add any illegals

but what about the first producer of the concentrate. The original concentrate

does not even have to be made in the same country as the final bottler.

3. Commercial producers are not bound to report some of the ingredients listed

in their foods. They can use processing aides, enzymes etc., that are used in

the production of the food but are not technically an ingredient.
