Guest guest
Has anyone had a cytoscopy while awake? Everywhere I read about it says it is done under general anesthetic. My urogyn is doing it without anything. Has anyone had it like this, how painful was it? I have had two many years ago, both without any pain medication. The first, despite my being prepped for it to be very painful, was not at all. The second, though, done several years later after my symptoms had progressed, was absolutely horrendous -- one of the worst pain experiences of my life -- and it took quite a while for the pain to subside. Guest guest
Don't let him do it without anesthesia. He is one of those sado gyns who like to torture their patients. Sorry for being so graphic but that kind are out there. Ora On Thu, 03 May 2007 18:29:48 -0000, " ruffdiamond81 " wrote: >Has anyone had a cytoscopy while awake? Guest guest
yes, and do NOT let them do it awake. It was extremely painful and I almost kicked the doc in the face while he was doing it. My legs were shaking it was hurting so badly!! Mindy>> Has anyone had a cytoscopy while awake? Everywhere I read about it > says it is done under general anesthetic. Guest guest
Thanks for the response. Yeah I read too that it can cause damage like scarring etc. And I would think if I am awake for that kind of pain that I would be more likely to get damaged because of moving and clenching down etc. I had a cath done last time I saw her, to draw some urine and it hurt so bad I could not believe it, I actually screamed something I have never done before. Guest guest
C, I have had a cytoscopy while awake. It was NOT painful at all. The urologist will give you some topical numbing stuff. Sometimes it felt like I had to pee, but that was it. I did have the numbing gel still leak out of my urethra the following day. But NO pain at all. --- Zdamask@... wrote: > In a message dated 5/3/2007 2:34:32 PM Eastern > Daylight Time, > j_elizabeth81@... writes: > > > > > > Has anyone had a cytoscopy while awake? Hollis I just wanted to add that both were done without the hydrodistention and the second showed "reddening of the lower trigone," which is the lower area of the bladder near the urethra. Surprise. . . . Hollis
Guest guest
I would recommend finding another dr, preferably a regular urologist to do the cystoscopy for you. The reason for doing it under general anesthesia is because if you do have Interstitial Cystitis and they try to do the procedure with you awake there will be a lot of pain. Urogynecologists are drs that work primarily in treating problems of the pelvic floor. Guest guest
, I have been reading other posts where they did not have pain. I guess it depends on the patient and how much pain they can tolerate and also the talent of the doc doing the procedure. Also, if you have any type of inflammation in the urethra--it will hurt more. He did use a local anesthetic for me also, but that is just around the urethral openning. All I know is that is was extremely painful and I would never ever have it done again like that. Good luck Mindy > > Thanks for the response.
