Guest guest
Kate, I’m just not sure if you hear it enough, so let me be the first of the New Year….. You are one hell of a care giver! You never seem to get down, tired, depressed, weary or angry. You always keep your chin up, looking at the bigger picture and your eyes focused on the prize. You work full time, run the household, take care of your daughter and pets and still have time and energy to cheerfully and lovingly care for Deb. You’re simply amazing! Deb is lucky to have you in her life. May 2006 be Deb’s year for the Gift of Life. Barb in Texas - Together in the Fight, Whatever it Takes! Son (Ken) 31 - UC 91 & PSC 99 I bought a Vitamix blender to try to give her more nutrition. We don't have any plans tonight, but I will figure out something to celebrate the opportunities and blessings we have had in this past year and the anticipation of great things for 2006. Guest guest
I am so far behind on posts that it scares me! So, if anyone can save me having to read all 684 of them to find this answer I would greatly appreciate it. Does anyone have an address for Deb/Kate at the hospital or at home? I did read that Deb may be released tomorrow, so a home address would probably be the best. (MO)

Guest guest
Kate, I'm so excited to hear that Deb is doing so well! I'm excited for both of you, because we all know this has been very difficult on you, as well. I hope great things continue to happen for the two of you. I did get to speak to the chief of liver tx surgery, and they have eliminated Denver as a potential donor. The doc agreed that neither reason we were given were valid - Denver's heart test came back negative, and there is NO age limit. He went on to explain that it was a combination of things that made the team opt out of using him as my donor. The bottom line is they did a lot of " what ifs " . Like what if he does have a heart problem and we just can't find it, and what if " 5-10 years down the line we discover he did have it, and this surgery just made things worse " (which is goofy, in my mind). But when they put that together with his age, stating that every year past 50 they consider as more of a risk, the team decided " it wasn't worth the risk to Denver. " I really believe that I could have pushed the issue, especially with Denver's backing (and I had it) and possibly changed the outcome, but decided it wasn't worth it to me. I just thought that if it turned out I was wrong, and they were right, I'd never be able to live with myself. We discussed tx overall and he thinks with my MELD score, as it is (which WAS 17) that I could get a cadaveric liver within a year. There are other ways that I could get one sooner, but I won't go into all of that now. The bittersweet news is, my MELD score went up to a 23 last Friday. That isn't official yet as the tx team hasn't gotten a copy of my labs from my Primary Care. That will happen today. Well, I must run, someone else wants the computer. Take care and keep us posted. Guest guest
The bittersweet news is, my MELD score went up to a 23 last > Friday. , I think your time is approaching and you have to trust that the path you are traveling, as well as Denver's path, is the right one. We kept reminding ourselves of that with each passing year that Deb waited. In retrospect, the time allowed us to strengthen our spiritual selves, enlarge our community base of support, increase the medical team's knowledge of Deb's issues, change the post tx protocols (no prednisone), and ultimately, recieve a perfect liver. We will be praying for you, as always. Kate
