Guest guest
Hi Donna, You are not crazy! Sugar free marshmallows do exist. Type sugar free marshmallow into a internet search engine, such as Google, and you will find many online stores, specifically those who cater to diabetics, that carry them. I know it is crazy! As for the psych eval, be yourself. Don't try to hide anything, they'll likely see right through it anyways and the reason it is required is to determine if you handle the changes you will experience and whether any long term psychiatric care is necessary. I remember having to complete like a 50 question survey prior to my appointment and then the questions that followed were based on my answers to the survey. We got into my relationships with my family and spouse, my relationship with work and school and my need to do so well in both, etc. You'll do fine if you just be yourself and not try to hide anything. in Virginia 299/224/150 Lap RNY: 5/3/06 another newbie here wanting words of advice HI all, be nice to me I'm new on this journey. I have gotten my approval for my surgery and am now awaiting my psych and nutrition evaluations. I feel like im on a roller coaster. First i was worried about the insurance approval, and now I wonder if I say the wrong thing to the psychologist/psychiatrist is he going to denign me? I suppose it wouldnt be the right time to tell him that i spent a half hour at the grocery store looking for suger-free marshmellows? true story. Laugh.. it was funny. what was worse was that the employee at walmart that was trying to help me find out if they carried them was clueless too!! Just in case there is anyone out there that is as clueless as i was, there is no such thing as sugar-free marshmellows.. as marshmellows is just sugar!!! Blonde moment? Blonde life!! OKay, anyways, can anyone tell me more of what they ask you at the evaluations? maybe i can stop worrying about that part.. so then i can start worrying about the surgery itself? just kidding. thanks!! Guest guest
I worried about seeming crazy too! After a lifetime, since childhood, of yo-yo dieting, I was diagnosed with EDNOS in my early 30's... I was basically obsessed with food and what it did to my body. To me this is just ridiculous!!!! Turned out I was also diagnosed with Grave's Disease and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis later that same year... Point to this story is, I HAD to be obsessed with food because I could lose weight and never keep it off because of my thyroid. So, I told this to my dr who was setting me up with these appt.s thinking that they would deny me... The answer was: They only want to make sure you are capable of understanding the ramifications of the surgery, not totally bonkers! You will do just fine! > > Hi Donna, > > You are not crazy! Guest guest
All ranges of emotions are completely normal. Don't worry, we all went through it and have moments when we feel a little roller coasterie. Just keep your goals in site and do what feels right for you. Guest guest
Hi Donna, I just had my psych eval a couple of weeks ago and it was nothing to be worried about. I had a standardized test that was designed to help identify problems like depression, social anxiety, etc. It was no big deal. Then I talked to the psychiatrist and his goal was to determine how well informed I was and if I was prepared to handle the lifestyle changes. They want to be sure that you don't look at the surgery as a " quick fix " and think you'll still be able to eat the same after as you do now. You also will likely have to deal with things like dumping and possible complications and they want to make sure that you can deal with that as well. Reading all of the posts here really helped me to be prepared. I imagine I knew more about what to expect than most of the people that he had dealt with so far because of this group. in MI > > HI all, be nice to me I'm new on this journey. Guest guest
I saw a tshirt in Kohl's that I wanted but it was too small. I think I'll go back and buy it for after my WLS. It said " Even though the voices aren't real, they have some really good ideas. " Wouldn't that have been great to wear to a psych eval?!?! LOL!! in MI > > > > > > Hi Donna, > > > > > > You are not crazy! Sugar free marshmallows do exist. Guest guest
Hi: I can tell you there is really nothing you can say wrong during your evaluations. They are looking for someone who is truly mentally unstable. Obviously, we all have food issues or we won't be overweight and looking to have or have had WLS. So, just be yourself. We have all gone through the roller coaster and I know I am still on it. All of our journeys are different and the same. So, I hope this helped some. Good Luck, > > > HI all, be nice to me I'm new on this journey. I > > have gotten my > > approval for my surgery and am now awaiting my psych > > and nutrition > > evaluations.
