Guest guest
ER One of the doctors does a three month stint in an in house treatment facility. (for drugs I think) It's been going on for years. Mrs. Garrett from a 1982 episode of Facts of Life counsels Blair (in love with someone that treats her like shit) to refrain from making a phone call to him, for just one hour at a time. Incidentally she was voted " Most likely to practice Psychology without a License " by the cable channel that airs Facts of Life. > The " program " on TV > > > My work hours enable (require) me to miss most prime time television, > but I've aware of these -- > > FELECITY--Jon Ritter guests as a father seeking to make amends with > his son for his past mis-deeds > > RUDE AWAKENING--this Showtime original is sort of Cheers set in AA > instead of the neighborhood tavern > > NYPD BLUE--Sipowicz and at least one female detective are recovering > alcoholics due to AA > > LAW & ORDER--Jerry Orbach's character is former heavy drinker, I am > not sure whether AA connection has ever been spelled out > > Bet there are more > > > >
Guest guest
West Wing has Spencer (President's chief of staff) and the vice-president both cast as recovering in AA. One episode showed a secret aa meeting that had a marine guard posted outside the door, who was under the impression that a poker game was taking place. Guest guest
There are AA groups on capital hill. An AAer (Congressman I think) is in charge of the Congressional EAP. > West Wing has Spencer (President's chief of staff) and the vice-president both cast as recovering in AA. Guest guest
Dark Angel Stepper Influence By an amazing coincidence. Tonight's episode of Dark Angel featured a drug intervention of the main character by two of her friends. One of which is a 13 stepper. Make sure you pay attention to just why she became a stepper. Watch the scene at the below site. I have it on good authority :0) that it won't be there for very long. http://www.members.tripod.com/digital-ones/home/ > There are AA groups on capital hill. Guest guest
the actor who plays chief of staff on " the west wing " was on " politically incorrect " one night where he stated that he is an alcoholic in real life and spouted typical AA verbiage about having a disease, that after one drink he cannot control his drinking, etc. martin sheen is also a bigtime stepper and he's the star of the show. no wonder his son charlie has been in and out rehab since forever. yes, i see this stuff on tv all the time and there's nothing serving as a counterpoint. remember the john larroquette show? his sponsor played by stepper/drugwar hawk david crosby? it was practically a weekly advertisement for AA. best wishes, -A adgagne@... http://hometown.aol.com/adgagne/myhomepage/index.html " if they give you lined paper, write the other way " - juan ramon jimenez In a message dated 10/18/00 9:07:46 AM, " aaking " writes: >West Wing has Spencer (President's chief of staff) and the vice-president >both cast as recovering in AA. During its first several years, the show did a handful of episodes in which she struggled with the urge to drink and/or have a cigarette. She also did an " intervention " once, judging some other woman an alcoholic based on no real evidence. Since it was TV-land, though, her unfounded assumption turned out to be correct of course. even referred explicitly to the 12 steps. Interestingly, in the show's latter years when it was struggling for viewers, decided to use medical marijuana to fight nausea from her chemo treatment. I guess the show's producers had just forgotten about the " addict " line. The Drew Carey show had the evil boss, Mr. Wick, turn out to be a secret cocaine addict and did an arc about his treatment. They were pressured into doing this by the White House. It was disappointing since Drew Carey is a libertarian who usually isn't afraid to stand up for what's right, but of course he doesn't have complete control over the show. I must say it's a very hopeful sign to see steppism mocked like that. Our culture could use a lot more of this! I haven't been watching the show because I thought the premiere was awful, but I may have to give it another chance.
