Guest guest
Seems some children do well on it. It however was horrible for my child, caused depression which led to antidepressants which then resulted in mood swings, violent behaviors leading to more drugs. I should mention the stimulants were wonderful at first leading to major improvements in attending and in 8th grade testing beyond HS levels but it wasn't long before the other problems set in. If you do try it I would be very cautious and if problems arrise - remove it rather than treating the symptoms it causes with other psychiatric drugs which seems to be the norm. You may want to look into some work done by Dr. Breggins before going that route. Another thing to try is enzymes to break down the problem foods such as phenols, casein, gluten. Or trying some supplements for helping the brain such as choline or vinpocitine or EFA's. This has helped some as well. Good luck. > I spoke to a woman today who said that she had used concert for her ADD child > to great effect and without side effects. Guest guest
Drugs are seldom the answer! Only to save the kids until you have found out what causes the disease. You have to find the cause! Otherwise you will go from readjusting one drug to trying a " new " drug to adding another drug to take care of the side effects of the first drug .... and so on. A lot of the kids are on 5 to 9 drug that are even not approved for children. I have a 5 y son Autistic, 18 y stepson ADD and a 20 y stepdaughter ADHD / ODD / Anti Social Personality Disorder. I raised the stepkids for the last 16 years and Ritalin or other drugs were not the answer for us: too many side effects. Since ADD & ADHD is getting now considered as mildly ASD by some doctors, I started treating them the DAN! approach just like the little one. Result within 4 month: 18 y ADD went from getting kicked out of school 4 times last 2 years to Honour Roll. 20 y ADHD / ODD lost her diagnosis, off all drugs, graduated and started college. Her " shrink " is baffled, mentioned something like " misdiagnosis " and " not supposed to happen " . 5 y Autistic: Early Intensive Intervention 50 - 60 hours for two years plus DAN! for one year. Went from IQ 49 to IQ 89 in 15 month, from 4 words (total) at 3 1/2 y to speaks fluently, has still to catch up on social aspects. Sorry, I lost my trust in drugs after I saw the result of other approaches with my own eyes in my own family. Carsten [ ] Re: concerta/ritalin Seems some children do well on it. Guest guest
My son has Asperger's. He has been on concerta for 6 months. He is able to focus, and has less behavior problems while on concerta. His teacher's asked me what happened because last year they dreaded my son in the classroom. He is in 2nd grade with a TSS.... Guest guest
My son has Aspergers. I tried Straterra, it had no effect. I tried Concerta and his Aspergers became worse. He could not sleep, he started patterning tremendously (pacing, snapping fingers, flapping hands) and eventually started talking almost continously. Guest guest
Misery.....the only description of my son on Ritalin, Concerta, Adderall, Clonidine and Strattera. All were complete failures. An experience I would not want to take on ever again. However, the B-6 therapy has worked wonders, and is far safer. a -- MarthaRolfe@... wrote: I spoke to a woman today who said that she had used concert for her ADD child to great effect and without side effects. However, he often drifts into another world and is always in trouble for not attending to lessons, etc. Thanks in advance. marti ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
