Guest guest
Hi, I have my 3 week dr. appt. today and he should put me on stage 4. I'm so afraid that I will dump on something. When you dump on something (am I wording that right?) do you feel the symptoms within seconds, minutes or not until you've finished eating what caused the dumping? I'm so nervous about this. Guest guest
My surgery was Aug 22nd, but I had complications and was released from the hospital the 1st of september so I am like two weeks post-op and just this morning experienced discomfort. I ate cottage cheese and peaches... but I think I ate too much AND too fast. After like minutes after my breakfast I was cramping in my intestines area... no diarrhea or the sweats, as I have read. But, nevertheless, it was uncomfortable. I had to sit and regret eating for about 20 minutes. I consider that a mini-dumping....?? Guest guest
I have dumped twice, it came fairly soon. I knew I was in rough waters as the food went in and then it hit......yuck. Follow good judgement and the rules and you will be fine....for me it was food too fatty that sunk my battleship. --- angels9962 wrote: > Hi, > I have my 3 week dr. appt. today and he should put > me on stage 4. Guest guest
have not dumped yet- take it slow and easy, if it doesn't feel " right " after a minute or two STOP and try again a few days
Guest guest
Donna, The dumping symptoms have somewhat varied for me. The first time it happened to me it took several hours of discomfort in my stomach before it finally happened and I was relieved. I felt like I had gas trapped in my lungs and needed to burp, but couldn't. All I had eaten was a couple bites of hotdog and chicken (we were at a BBQ and that was all I could eat). After vomiting it all up, I felt better but weak. It happened to me again after a fatoosh salad (not sure I spelled it correctly), but it had lemon juice on it, so I think my stomach didn't like to citrus. It happened within a few minutes after eating. That time I just felt the urge to vomit. The next 2 times, I had broccoli and the gas build up caused continuous burping, lightheadedness, followed by vomiting. So, as you can see, it can vary in how quickly and the symptoms. For me, the only thing that was similar was the vomiting. But after I vomited up the food causing me a problem, I felt great. Guest guest
The dumping symptoms have somewhat varied for me. Hi Thanks for letting me know. I think I started to get the feelings yesterday. I had cottage cheese and then baby food pears. I didn't measure the cottage cheese. I just ate out of the container, so I'm thinking I ate too much, though I didn't feel full. I wound up having to lay down on my bed for about 15 min. then felt fine. On the pureed stage, do we have to puree the cottage cheese? I didn't. Maybe that's why it gave me a little trouble. Donna/NY
Guest guest
I measure about 1/2 a cup now at almost 8 mo. out Hi Shauna, I bet that's what I did wrong. I probably ate about 1/2 cup out of the container. I didn't eat fast because I was waiting to see if I had any bad feelings so I could stop eating. On the handout at the Drs. office, it said to have 1/4 cup. Oh well, ya live and learn. Donna/NY --------------------------------- How low will we go? Check out Yahoo! Guest guest
I tried cottage cheese after only 10 days because the shakes were making me crazy (hating them). I, too, ate out of the container (are you a bachelor too?) but I think I ate maybe 3 spoonfuls. I ate them agonizingly slow. I chewed and mushed the cottage cheese to a pulp with my tongue. It probably took me 10 minutes or more to eat those three spoonfuls. It all settled in fine and I was full. I then tried some yogurt too later that day. I don't think you'd have to puree the cottage cheese in a machine so much as your mouth if you can stand doing that. From that day until about 4 weeks I was chewing and mashing with tongue and all that jazz very deliberately for very long meals. It might seem like that would be maddening but after drinking shakes for over a week and now tasting flavors/variety it was no big deal. Don't eat too much, eat very slow. very very slow. Good luck, Mike in GR > > The dumping symptoms have somewhat varied for me. > > Hi > > Thanks for letting me know. I think I started to get the feelings > yesterday. Guest guest
I tried cottage cheese after only 10 days because the shakes were making me crazy (hating them). I, too, ate out of the container (are you a bachelor too?) Hi Mike, Were you given the okay by your doc to have it only after 10 days? I had to wait for 3 weeks to be able to eat it. Ummm, no I'm not a bachelor, I'm married with 3 kids. But I figured, I'm the only one eating from it, so it's okay. But I think I will measure it from now on so I don't stretch my pouch. I have to say I am enjoying the stage one baby fruit. It brings back memories of me feeding my 3 kids when they were babies because I'm actually using one of their baby spoons. Guest guest
My surgeon's " plan " is 2 weeks liquid, 2 weeks soft food, add 2 weeks pulverized/heavily chewed chicken, tuna, stuff like that, then I think pretty much anything goes. So no I was not " given the okay " but I was asked by my dietician at my two week appointment (two days after I had some cottage cheese) if I'd tried anything other than the shakes. When I told her I had some cottage cheese she asked how it went and said that was fine that I had tried it. She went on to say that in the next couple weeks if I wanted to try some chicken/tuna later in the time I could do that too. I have no doubt if I had called my dietician two days before my two week appointment and said, " Hey I can't take it anymore I'm going insane with these damned shakes " they'd have let me tried cottage cheese or yogurt. I think at the 4 week appointment she asked if I'd tried sweets/high fat foods. I told her no that I thought we weren't or we'd dump. She said that even so many try them to see if they can. I informed her that while I like to experiment with food I don't like to experiment with the descriptions of dumping. I didn't eat baby food but that's probably not a bad idea. Expensive but not bad. I was told by my doctor to crush my pills and mix them with natural unsweetened applesauce which I could sweeten with Splenda. > > I tried cottage cheese after only 10 days because the shakes were > making me crazy (hating them).
