I dont know what normal is. I think I would find myself lost as well. Burt the

day didnt sound too bad overall. In fact it sounded rather nice. But good for

you with the mattress cover They are truly great, that is if your child doesnt

decide to rip it up. ugh.

I've forgotten how to do " normal " !

Ack! I worked it out to leave with his sitter for three hours

so that I could take the older three kids Christmas shopping...we

planned it all out, complete with lunch out---actually sitting down

at a table, fer cryin' out loud---and chose the stores we wanted to

go to. The kids were excited, and I was happy they could get out and

do something that other kids do for a change.

Shoulda been fun...except for one thing: I don't know how to just

relax and do " regular life " anymore. The whole time I am

jittery...waiting for who knows what to happen...in a hurry to get

done and get out of the store. I've spent so many years doing get-in-

get-done-get-out style shopping that I don't remember how to stroll

and browse!

In typical male style, got all of his presents at the first

store, and was ready to go home. He was " bored " the rest of the

time. Elaine, who LOVES to shop, wanted to go to store after store,

borrowing/spending money she didn't really have...but did manage to

get all but one present she needed to buy...we'll settle accounts

later. , the constant worrier of the bunch, struggled to find

the " right " gifts...got only one present purchased...we will have to

get her out again.

We decided to eat lunch at that extremely fine restaurant known as

Sonic, seated in the food court at the mall. Stupid. Someone walked

by and sneezed...he was sure he felt something on his

shoulder. Just as I managed to convince him that it was okay...he

probably wouldn't be touching the back of his shoulder anyway, and

besides, our food hadn't gotten to the table yet, a woman walks past

him coughing...and of course, we were eating by that time. He was

miserable the rest of the meal. We finished our shopping and got

home.

When we got home, was in tears...he wanted candy and the

sitter decided he had had enough. Before could get his gifts

wrapped, found the bag and dumped it all out, breaking the

pretty little ceramic angel had chosen for me. was

terribly upset...we discussed the options and decided that it could

be glued together quite nicely (one clean break down the

middle...doesn't even show), so my Christmas angel is sitting on the

mantle...and everyone else knows what they are getting from .

In the evening (this was Monday...haven't had time to write till

now), , unclothed, wet down his mattress and box springs...so

he could not sleep on his bed till the Lysol dried; he and I spent a

memorable night on the couch, sleeping from 2:30am till almost

7:30am...perfect end to a perfect day. Yesterday I went out and

bought not one but two zippered mattress covers---one plastic, one

cloth. We ain't spendin' no more nights like that...I'm too old.

It was not really a bad day...just made me realize how different our

world is, I suppose... has gotten a lot better about the germ

thing, and I think that part of his problem was all the people

milling about; he doesn't do crowds well.

The mattress cover was a final attempt to keep his mattress from

going totally down the tubes...I had been using the plastic ones with

no problem for some time, but he recently figured out that if he

found a little chink in the seam, he could rip the whole side out of

it...went through 3 of those last week. Progress is definitely a

mixed blessing...I am hoping that the cloth one will be harder to

wreck. ;-)

I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable,

Boy, does this ever sound familiar.
