Guest guest
and I are going to a christening on Sunday, weather permitting. I don't know if he'll have any questions, but if he does...do you have a simple explanation of God for *your* autistic kids? Don't worry about wording it in a way that I can say it -- I just want to know what YOU say, to get an idea of what the right level of disclosure is. I'll add in the atheist caveats myself. :-) Thanks, Jacquie PS -- and how about a simple explanation of the purpose of a christening? An 8-year-old girl and a baby are being christened. Guest guest
Hmmmmmm. I told Greggor that God is the one would made us all. He is good and helps us to know right from wrong. He waits for us in heaven. He kinda gets it. I told Greggory that he was baptized because it is a way to let everyone know that he will believe in god and will go to heaven. Pretty vague. Guest guest
At this point, all I say is, " That's Jesus/God//whoever. We love Jesus. Jesus loves us. " I wear a crucifix and the boys both like to have me kiss it, and I try to get them to kiss it too. I also touch it to their foreheads so Jesus is 'kissing' them, and they like that too. I think the right level of disclosure is whatever the child can understand, and you're the best person to know that! That's the level we are at now but of course mine are much younger. -Sara. Guest guest
My MIL told that a christening was the church's way of welcoming a child into the family. He seemed satisfied with that. Guest guest
Well, my explanation is a lot longer, but I boiled it down to a simple sentence. Penny Re: Help! Guest guest
The way it was explained to me was that it is something to celebrate someones life.
