Im sorry I dont have any " pros " to speak of with ritilan but I can add to

your list of " cons " through my sons experience. He was 7 when the doctor

prescribed it for his ADHD diagnosis. It was horrible! My son didnt eat or have

any

appetite on it and looked very sickly. It raced his heart and at the same time

calmed him down BUT it was a spacey scary kind of calming. To me he looked

" drugged " but then again he was on drugs! For us, ritilan was a cover up for

other issues that needed to be addressed.

Hope it helps!

---My " autistic " son's psychiatrist wanted to put him on Ritalin at

age 6. (He is now 12) I refused. His pediatrician suggested a drug

that was supposed to be not as harsh...Dexadrine. With encouragement

from his pre-K teacher, I gave him the med. in a gummy bear. Two

hours later, I got a call from his teacher...I rushed to his school,

to find standing in a corner shredding paper towels into a pile

on the floor...he had been doing this for 45 minutes. I tried to get

him to the door to go home, but he had a complete " meltdown " and ran

back to shredding the paper towels. It took 3 of us to haul him

kicking and screaming to my van. His teacher had to ride with me to

take him to the doc, to hold him so he would not injure himself by

throwing himself around. I ended up taking him to the emergency room.

He was SCREAMING at the very top of his lungs non-stop the whole time

since we left the school. His teacher and I were both crying.

At the emergency room the screaming continued...he was rushed into a

room where he was given a shot of Valium, which took 20 minutes to

calm him to a whimper. The whimper continued until it escalated back

into the screaming, since this med was timed released...every 4 hours

for 24 hours he escalated into the screaming...all I could do was

hold him and cry...neither one of us slept.

This was when I began my research into natural supplements.

has not been on any meds since, he NEVER will. As someone said

once... " Autism is NOT a deficiency of any kind of DRUG! "

has come a LONG way on special diet ...Gf-CF,many natural

supplements for his immune system, chelation, Bio-resonance, etc.

Kathy,

Can you share what vitamins/supplements were helpful for attention? I am

assuming that chelation actually was where you saw the bigger improvements in

attention? Also, if you can say where in chelation--about what round--you began

to see improvements?

Thanks,

I asked an AS adult to write about her experiences, here is what she

wrote for me

http://www.danasview.net/ritalin.htm

For many kids, ADD/ADHD is a phenol intolerance issue, so you can

consider that

http://www.danasview.net/phenol.htm

For my ADD son, I reduced phenols and chelated. He is *almost* no

longer ADD, very mild attention issues now.

You can also consider No-Fenol enzyme

Hi Kumiko. Here is our experience:

We tried Concerta (18 mg), the timed-release form of Ritalin on two

of my kids (5 and 7 yo at the time). It worked very well the first

day. The second day was not quite as good as the first. And it

continued to decline until they needed 36 mg. to function (a large

dose for a 43 lb child). But the effectiveness continued to decline,

they had no appetite at all and lost weight, looked like skeletons,

and couldn't sleep. They began grinding their teeth and complaining

of a sensation they called " tickling teeth " .

My son had horrible rebound effect (behavior worse than if he hadn't

taken the med at all) as one dose wore off, before the next dose

kicked in. (I read many other accounts by other moms on the internet

describing the same thing). The very-highly-regarded neurologist

with a 6-month waiting list said that this was impossible. We

dropped her after one visit.

Finally, after 6 weeks, my daughter began having hallucinations,

little cartoon-like clowns, popping out of her food and out of the

edges of walls. When I called the pediatrician's office to report

this, the MD looked up Concerta in her book, and announced that

hallucinations were impossible on this drug (was she too ignorant to

look up Ritalin, instead?), so of course this adverse event was never

reported to the pharmaceutical company either.

We stopped the med and have never looked back. We found a series of

vitamins, supplements, and diet to help them through until they're

completely detoxed from mercury and other heavy metals. They appear

to be almost normal now, despite the fact that they are still really

poisoned. We look forward to the day when chelation is done and we

no longer need to buy huge amounts of nutitional supplements.

In the meantime, I thank Andy Cutler and others on this list for

their insight and help. Andy, via his book, has literally saved my

life. And soon, my children will finally get to enjoy the childhood

they should have had all along.

Kathy I.

I saw the same thing with my son on Concerta, Ritalin and Adderall.

My son hallucinated too! He saw water on the floor and under tables. He

through a bag of chips at school, and screamed, " There are bees in the bag! " He

swore up and down bees were flying out of the bag. My doctor said the opposite

of what your doctor did. She told me that Concerta was known to sometimes cause

hallucinations.

Our journey down the road of meds has been nothing but awful. I will never do

it again. I wrote a few weeks back about my son's experience with Strattera.

I'm happy to report that he has been off of it for over 3 weeks, and doing so

much better! I added B6, Magnesium, Calcium and Zinc into his diet and I am

definitely seeing what I saw a year ago - a happy, compliant and obedient little

boy! The counselors at camp say he has had stellar days all week!

For my son it has been B6, Magnesium, Calcium and Zinc. I added them one at a

time into his diet, and he's doing great on them.

Kumiko,

My son almost seven and still nonverbal who has been chelating for

almost 3 years has been on adderall for almost a month now and has

improved beyond belief. He has gone from doing 200 pc puzzles to

300 pc puzzles, his receptive langauge seems to have increased

dramatically. Jack can now participate in: give me chair,

icecream, table ect with picure cards. Friday, Jack made his teacher

cry when he signed the whole alphabet saying each letter. We also

went away for a few days and Jack spontaneously requested potty,

eat, drink, open ect several times. This has been the best I have

seen him since he regressed. Jack's stools seem to be improved as

well.

I believe you have to try everything. I have done so may

alternative treatments that the behaviorist said, " this is the

longest list of alternative treatments that I have heard. " Adderall

is suppose to be in and out of the system in a few hours. It did

not start out great. In the beginning he was a bit weepy, may be

for the first week, but I would be too if I was coming down from the

high that my child is on. Jack is very hyper, bouncing off the wall

hyper. Strattera was a huge mess for Jack and I was nervous about

trying something else. My husband did not like Jack on the medicine

at all and I said, " well let's test him and see if it helps him with

langauge " I set out picture cards. Prior to adderall he could not

participate with this type of lesson and to our surprise he got at

leats 25 correct " give mes " compared w/ 2 correct responses

previously. My husband then said, " well maybe it does work and we

should move on. " Each week seems to be getting better. I can only

hope it continues.

These kids are all so different and my son obviously need meds to

help w/ nuerotransmission in addition to diet, chelation, yeast

treatment, antiviral treatment, cytokine suppression, multiple

vitamins, magnesium(natural calm), culturelle, GSE, flax oil

codliver oil, supra-nuthera, taurine, glycine, vitamine a,

monolaurin, enzymes and verbal behavior.

nne,

Good to know you are seeing good results with Addrerral. How much are

you giving? I know Jack and my son Rakesh are of same age. Rakesh

weighs about 48lbs.

Thanks,

Geeta,

Adderall XR 10mg. I believe it is a pretty low dose. I am amazed

at the difference in the stools. They seem perfect now and he

cheats on the diet often. Jack is 49lbs.
