Am I hearing you correctly, you're giving these things 3 times a day? The oils

as well as the capsules?

[ ] Re: Supps to improve Expressive language?

Hi, just wanted to give an important heads up of our experience. We

tried Cod Liver Oil a long time ago for our 3 year old with severe

language delays. It didn't benefit much except eye contact. We now

use retinyl vitamin a for that.

This year we tried a myriad of EFAs (omega 3, 6, & 9 sources). We

heard about Efalex being good, but had to order it. In the mean time

we used Evening Primrose Oil, and Flax Seed oil and saw/heard some

improvement and differentiation in pronunciation.

We were able to find something called Ultra Oils by Country Life at

the local Health Food Store. It has Flax, Borage, Pumpkin Seed oils,

as well as Black Currant Seed and some Rosemary Oil.

It comes in large gel capsules that have to be swallowed. I give

them one after another in the morning, noon and night for right now

and they give my son a big boost in ability to pronounce things and

try different sounds.

In the last few weeks we also loaded on DHA from New Chapter.

Good luck,

Lyn Z

I understand more now, thanks. I want very much to get to this point, it's very

hard for me to find things she can take tho. She's allergic to " fishes " , so it

makes it a little harder to find things as far as the Omegas', etc.

How long do you think you'll need to " load " for? I have read some of Andy's

book, however, I'm currently battling the school's stupidity, so I've had to be

a little bit more laxed on the " ever changing " Bio side of things.

I'd appreciate anything you can throw my way. You're right, lots of talk about

the wonderful fish oils, just can't do it here. We are chelating and that has

helped in lots of areas, however, she's almost 4 and her language/speech is

still that of a 22 month old. Which - is defiantely more than it was, 10 months

ago she was completely nonverbal!!!! So progress is progress!!

Thanks

I'll have to read that chapter/portion again regarding omegas and

flax/borage loading dose. I thot it was recommended loading some

great amount like 8oz at one time of flaxseed oil and it breaks down

the number of miligram capsules needed to get that amount. We

started about three weeks ago, but ran out of the Ultra Oils within a

week, went to fish oil and didn't see the same results, bought more

Ultra Oils this week. I'm going to give it another two weeks of

giving 3 or more capsules three times a day, every day, of the Ultra

Oils.

When I read again tonight I'll post if I see anything I missed or

anything else relevant to post.

Sorry about the fish allergy you're running into. Fish oils are

definitly talked about more than things like Flax/Borage and other

vegetarian oils when it comes to kids mercury/autism/apraxia, etc.

But we have had more success with the other oils

(flax/borage/Rosemary/black current/pumpkin seed) than cod liver oil

or salmon oil.

Why?? I dunno.

nne,

I looked up Brahmi, because I've never heard of it before. I have however

been considering seeing a person that practices Ayurvedic medicine, and found

in the search that Brahmi is part of their tradition. Do you see someone that

practices this?

Thanks,

We use 2 capsules of ProEFA oil by Nordic Naturals. We started off with

one. We squeeze the oil on the spoon and my son takes it right off. We

started before he turned 3. He is 3 ½ now. He is talking in sentences

now.. they aren’t always clear. But he went from word approximations to

answering questions in like 9 months. We have also done AIT to help

with the speech. We still have a way to go, but remarkable improvement.

… even his ST wrote that in his progress reports. There is a great book

called The Late Talker; What to do if Your Child isn’t talking yet. Go

to speechville.com and you can get the book there. It is written by a

MD – who used to be a ST and a mom of two verbal apraxic kids.
