Guest guest
, A Neurologist can give you the diagnosis however I have heard that there is a significant wait for the Medwaiver. My office does accept Medwaiver and I would be happy to give you some contacts. Hope this helps. Office . Ilene R. Rotman, M.S. CCC-SLP Language Link Therapy, Inc. Director To: sList Sent: Wednesday, March 18, 2009 11:20:16 AMSubject: medwaiver Hi Everyone, Looking for some guidance… I tried to get the medwaiver in the past for my daughter and was unable to do so because she didn’t have an official autism diagnosis. I decided back then not to worry about it because I didn’t want to give her a label but I have been rethinking this and would like to revisit it. Does anybody know who I need to contact and where I need to get the diagnosis from? Can it be her pediatrician, any medical doctor, a neurologist, etc.. ? I am in Palm Beach County now so not sure where or how to start this process. Thanks in advance for your help. Guest guest
Hi ~ Your best bet is going to be from a neurologist or a developmental pediatrician. We see a neurologist once a year and that is who diagnosed my daughter. Guest guest
Hi Fabiola, I have had many responses directing me to a neurologist. I was hoping a regular doctor could do this because it would be an easy task for me to get something from them but alas, it is going to require a trip to our neurologist. And so another task we move forward on..on our ever continuing saga of the ASD world of Ella (sorry for the melodramatic response…just feeling that way today J). Guest guest
As far as I know, first step is to become a client of DCF. DCF(Dept of Children and Families) North Broward: South Broward Central Broward: Then do an eligibility application and apply for Medwaiver through APD (Agency for Persons with Disabilities) This info is for Broward County residents. Robin Oh…that is great to hear. Does anybody know who I call to begin this process? Its been so long when we first tried that I don’t remember (or maybe its just that I have lost ½ my brain since having kids) J. A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! Guest guest
DCF is no longer involved in this process. The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) was created by separating the Developmental Disabilities program under DCF and making it and Agency onto itself in 2004. APD does the applications and determines eligibility based on diagnosis and considering your child as a household of one for the income criteria, meaning that medicaid requirements are waived (hence medicaid waiver). You can go to DCF for medicaid but it is income based for your family. Guest guest
Thanks so much to everybody who offered guidance on this matter. Once I get it all going, I will follow up on some of the recommendations and offers of support.
