, HI! *waves wildly* We lived in SC during our last Air Force

assignment. Where are you? It was a pretty crazy time for us, but

to make a long story short the family lived in military housing at

Shaw AFB, near Sumter, and we traveled alot for everything. was

home when he could be.

I too knew nothing of autism until we were faced with it, but in our

case it was another parent that brought it up. Thank heavens she

did. We have five kids from two to fifteen with a variety of dx's.

Life is never dull, but often exhausting.

This is a wonderful group of parents and I know you will find them

helpful and supportive. Someone almost always has information, or a

link. We have new parents, experienced parents, and parents that are

also OT's, PT's, SPED teachers, etc. I wish I had found someplace

like here years ago when we started on our journey, but Jacquie

hadn't started the list yet and I was computer illiterate still. Now

I hate to consider having no access to a computer and this group.

He is at home with me for the time being. We plan to send him back to school

next fall for kindergarten. Then there is Miss Yessenia. She is going to be

5months old this Dec 10th. She is a real stinker and keeps me hoping but kinda

cute so we have decided to keep her. ;) Hoope you enjoy it here.

know nothing about autism. He is developmental delayed. Just started

walking a month ago. Only has 2 worlds. Does not use them

correctly.Throws alot and seems to have a explosive temper. Other

wise sweetest boy you every saw. He is very loving and huggable.

Loves to hug and cuddle. I was blown away by this.

On top of that he has craniofacial problems. His skull was fused in

the front at birth. I believe he has 2 or 3 different things going on

Awww, . I'm sorry you have to join us. But since you are - Welcome!

I don't know what it is about the " Autie " kids, but they are always the

" sweetest " kids! :-) That should be on the diagnostic criteria IMO.

I hope you will enjoy it here. It is a difficult situation to be in as

a parent, but this group really does make it a whole lot easier!

Welcome !

We all started out in your shoes knowing nothing about autism, well, except

for a couple ladies here who happen to be therapists and a school teacher

for autistic kids.

I found out years ago that the old stereo type that a child who is autistic

can't be affectionate was false....both of my boys have always been cuddlers

and affectionate.

Ask any questions you need too, we have an amazing amount of combined

experience here!

By the way, although undiagnosed, it's suspected that my boys have a genetic

condition and their autism is just one of the characteristics of it.

Welcome ,

I'm trying to catch up with the groups messages and I may say a few

things others have already told you so ignore me if I do. ;o)

Autism affects every child in different ways. Some of our kids are

very physical with hugs and touching. My daughter liked to be hugged

and held at 29 months. (she still wants to sit in my lap at 11 yrs

old but she's getting better at sitting beside me). My son has always

been extremely clingy. He's 7 and not dx'd yet though he's scheduled

for testing in January and we're suspecting Aspergers. (a type of

autism if you're not familiar with the term) or high functioning

autism.

Unfortunately a lot of our kids have more than one issue they're

facing. It complicates life sometimes.

Glad to have you. I'm fairly new to the group myself (only been here

3 months now.

Hi ,

Sounds like he has a lot autism-like things going on. I have a sister in SC

with an autistic child. I certainly envy the programs available there as

compared to Georgia.

Welcome to the list.
