I take lots of vitamins already and wondered about that as I take most of them at the same time in the morning. India
Guest guest
I think most surgeons will recommend chewables or liquid. All of mine are chewable. Guest guest
I am about 6 days out now. Today I felt better (after pain pills), I even made my boyfriend breakfast and didnt feel grossed out like the pass days. I am slowly trying to get protein/water down but still very hard. i drank half a shake and got super full! but Now feel too full to drink water so I am drinking as much as i can but wont be a liter. Yesterday, I drank almost a liter of water, but no shake. Still have to swallow those big pills, i have about ten a day. I don't know if it is too early, but I started noticing my hair coming out in my rubberband, is that normal? Is that because I can't fit a lot of shake in? How else do you guys take the protein? I am being optimistic but get scared naturally, I just wish I could be healed! But that day will come. I can move around easier today and the incisions are bothersome but no so much as the previous days. I have been looking forward to get online and see that other people went through this or can point out stuff I can do better. What was the average time period you all healed up in? I am curious, I am hoping that I wont feel this bad in two months =/ > > > > In a message dated 8/26/06 6:19:32 PM Pacific Daylight Time, > > bkcontrawoman@ writes: > > > > > I have to take those HUGE pills and starting to get > > > grossed out with them. Guest guest
Hi , What you are feeling is completely normal and this is the hardest part. I had open too and with my surgery came an incredible amount of back pain. I just remember not being able to get comfortable anywhere. I also had trouble fitting it all in at first. I was on a chewable vitamin for a while though. You might want to look into that. I lost my hair for about 2 months after my surgery. Not to the point where it was that noticeable (I have pretty think hair usually) but I sure noticed as it was coming out. I think it is a combination of the trauma of the surgery, rapid weight loss and protein and hormone dips in your body. My suggestion is just to sip the protein shakes (as much as you can stomach) and rest as much as possible. I am 2 1/2 years out of my surgery and it seems a life time ago. I can eat a normal meal, exercise regularly, don't have to make to many concessions in terms of my diet. Each person is different though. I am very sensitive to sugar even to this day and I know approximately how many grams of sugar my body can take. My mother, who also had the surgery is not sensitive to sugar at all but dumps easily if she overeats or eats a lot of carbohydrates. Having family members who have had the surgery has been really helpful because I have been able to see them as they progress through recovery and I noticed that what worked for them might not work for me and vice versa. Trust your body and your instincts. And then of course your tastes will change and what you crave and what you can eat. When I first came home I craved clam chowder. I could eat 98% fat free clam chowder (one or two spoonfuls at first) for every meal (and probably did). It was my safety food. If I was dumping everything else that was one meal that I knew I could eat. Then in about 4 months that changed to another meal and I haven't looked at clam chowder since. My body seems to let me know what it wants and I supplement with fruits, veggies and water. Thank god I dont have to drink the protein shakes anymore; they were very hard to stomach (no pun intended)! It is a process of trial and error and getting to know your body again (in a healthy way). Guest guest
Glad you are feeling better, everyday you will feel a bit better until suddenly you realize you actually feel great! As for feeling grossed out by food, I had that too for about the first two weeks then it went away. You will be able to get in more day by day, take it slow and sip, sip, sip. I haven't had the hair loss thing but it does not usually start, if it starts at all, from the third to sixth month. I had surgery on a Wednesday and really felt back up to par by the following Wednesday. Everyone is different. Give it time. Soon the pounds will be melting away and you will be a loser!!! Guest guest
The first few days/weeks are the most difficult. Try to keep that protein going. You will lose more, heal faster, and have more energy. It will get easier with time, I promise.
