Guest guest
You'll still get the backhanded comments after surgery! It never ends! " You look so good now. " I didn't look good before? Guest guest
Oh come on. I get those " kind words " with having shaved off my beard, getting a hair cut or wearing a new shirt. Don't read so much into that crap. People are just trying to make conversation albeit rather clumsly. Ask yourself, too, did you have WLS for others? Major surgery for compliments from others (even sincere ones)? I had WLS for myself and to a lesser extent my family. Mike in GR > > I so want to get this surgery done, I am SOOOO tired of waiting. I can understand where you are coming from though. I have 3 sisters, need I say more hahaha. W wrote: I so want to get this surgery done, I am SOOOO tired of waiting. Now I have to vent. Guest guest
Oh I could care less about there " compliments " . Like you, I had this surgery for me. To make me feel good and to be healthy. As long as I am happy...I don't care what anyone thinks. W 380/319/160 Mike wrote: > Oh come on. Guest guest
Kim, Don't feel bad. I am with Mike on this one: they are trying, albeit clumsily, to be encouraging... I mean, what are they supposed to say...? " Ohh, by the way, although you were fat and killing yourself before, now you look healthy although not as pretty?? " I mean... really... what would you like to hear? Honestly. What would I like to hear?? I drill and drill and drill my brains and can't really come up with any answers. What are people supposed to say?? I think that just " you look wonderful " is the appropriate response at seeing you successfully losing the weight, becoming healthy and seeing you happy. _____ From: GastricBypass-LOSERS [mailto:GastricBypass-LOSERS ] On Behalf Of Sent: Sunday, September 10, 2006 12:20 AM To: GastricBypass-LOSERS Subject: Re: Insulted at work - need to vent Alot of people are so heartless & will never change. It really hurts to have to encounter them. Guest guest
But Mike, we're girls....it's different for us. And for me, it's not the backhanded compliment that bugged me. It was the unstated insult of " But she's cute " to explain why I was treated differently than a coworker. in MI > > > I so want to get this surgery done, I am SOOOO tired of waiting. > Now I > > > have to vent. > > > > > > I was commenting at work how one of the graduate students (I work > in a > > > research lab at a University) was going out of his way to help a > new > > > female employee when I couldn't get him to do a darn thing for > me.
