Donna,

How long has he been on SCD?

Patti

food and its effect on stool

is there a predictable order that can be assigned to foods such as

spinach, squashes, green beans, carrots, pears, apples, bananas, and

peaches with regard to the effect they have on loosening or binding

of the stools? it is important that i manipulate the consistency of

my son's stools with the right balance of the foods that will be more

binding vs those that make him more loose. i fear that i am never

sure when he is ready for a new food since he has tended to be loose

almost since leaving intro diet.

hi patty,

we had been on the diet 1 month and had gotten to where we were

tolerating all meats and fish, spinach, green beans, carrots and many

squashes, pears and apples, oJ, tomatoes, onions and garlic. we were

doing well with almond flour treats and almond butter. than i tried

cashew butter. i had written to the list at the time and i now

understand that all nuts are not created equal in digestability.

My 9 yr old is still not getting back to the great formed stools he

was having before the cashew butter. we restarted with intro diet

and it seems that it might take another month to get back to where we

were before that relatively small cashew butter treat. i guess i

have to reintroduce each food in a similar order to get back to where

we were. i guess i am looking for more specific guidelines and they

just arent and cant be stated since each person's intestinal healing

will be unique to them.

since he tends to have more loose stools i was hoping there is a list

of foods that tend to be more binding that i could use more often and

balance them with those that might be the opposite. i try to use a

lot of meats and apples for that reason.

enzymes would help firm up his stool (and digest his food as well)

but my concern is that it would mask for me determining how the diet

is working and i would really then not know when to add a new food.

i optimally would like his body to learn to create the enzymes to his

foods.

you asked what what foods i was hoping to add - - -

my concern is that he have some treats for when other kids have some

and more importantly i feel that his caloric intake will be increased

significantly when he can tolerate almond flour and treats made with

almond flour. i feel he has lost a bit of weight and would really

like to get his caloric intake higher. snack time at school i would

like to be able to give him a muffin or a brownie so he has more

calories than the fruit/veggie option. my children dont want anyone

else to see their foods that i make so i am trying to make something

that the other kids dont say " what's that? " . recently at birthday

party my son hid his food under the table so no one would see it. my

other son makes a wall out of his lunch box and than eats his

sandwich behind it so no one can see it.

i thought i should concentrate on increasing the amounts of nut

yogurt he can tolerate and in the long run this might work out to

provide increase in healing rate. we are using 2 tsp/day of almond

yogurt.

thanks for taking the time to help me,

donna

hi patty,

he was tolerating peanut butter and almond butter brownies just fine

previous to the 1 small cashew butter brownie. and yes they are

absolutely fabulous. yet he isnt tolerating them very well at this

point. when i get brave enough to try again with the brownies would

you say that peanut butter or almond butter are equally safe choices?

Have you ever tried the peanut butter brownies? They are

EXCELLENT....... only contain peanut butter, egg, honey and a bit of

baking soda. ]
