Guest guest
Amy, Until I educated myself on the subject I had some of the same concerns and thoughts that you do. All I can say is people who make the decision not to vaccinate have usually done an extensive amount of research into it and have made the best decision for their family/children. We don't vaccinate Drake but I also don't attack other people who do vaccinate their children. It's a very, very personal and sensitive issue. Please remember that. Guest guest
Well put Fawn. I've been researching vaccines for well over a year - it's almost an obsession at this point. How can you easily sum up hundreds of hours of reading when someone flippantly asks " why on earth wouldn't you vaccinate? " ? Honestly, it's hard for me to believe that anyone who has bothered to research at all would continue to vaccinate their children (or pets for that matter). Yesterday my son's ped told us she would no longer see him as a patient because of his no-vax status. She was, however, unable to provide me with a valid reason for vaccinating him. This is the same practice that was " surprised " that he was breastfed - they actually had the nerve to give me permission to continue bf'ing at his one year appt. Guest guest
Thanks Shelby. I agree--when people curiously ask " how come you don't.... " it's very, very difficult to put all of that information into one statement. It's a whole philosophy and way of thinking I have to tell them. I also make the point that I know I've done more research into our decision NOT to vaccinate than other people do in their decision to do it. That will usually make them stop to think a little. Thanks for sharing your support! Fawn
Guest guest
Margaret, I can understand how you could read disrespect in my statement, but there really was none intended. Shelby, Please be mindful and respectful of the mothers on this list, like me, who have done the research and have chosen to vaccinate their children. Please do not assume that everyone who researches vaccination comes to the same conclusions as you did. It is always difficult to understand how people can come to different conclusions than ourselves, that is the challenge of living with and getting along with others in a diverse world. We can all at least *try* to understand each other and respect our differences. Statements like the one above serve only to divide us. -- Margaret Avoid pushing too hard. Your children are full of spirit and will find their way. Their true parent resides within them; you are only a reflection. --Vimala McClure, The Tao of Motherhood mailto:potterkim@... I did research many many times on this whole issue...and its hard for me to belive that people don't vaccinate their children, putting mine at risk. Guest guest
I guess just as I agreed with whomever wrote that the immunization issue (especially NOT to) is a sensitive one and should be respected, I think the oposite view should be too. You are right, I think many of us immunize because we are told to do so and don't do too much research. I also think that those of you who selectively immunize or use other means of non immunization are obviously well educated and have given this issue a lot of thought. Let's just respect that different things work for different families. Thanks,
