Tamara and Elbony I wish you all the best. I sure hope that this will work

for her.

-- Ebony's home therapy

I have more good news. I was able to get Ebony on a waiting list for

a home program based on Greenspan/Floortime. They said the longest

it would be would be six months. Probably not that long though

because I already have everything in place from being in the Lovaas

based home program. I am kinda excited about this. It will be a new

start for us. I was very into the lovaas and still believe ABA works

for a LOT of kids. But it didn't work for Ebony and now I am able to

try something else that may work for her. Wish us luck guys.

I am still wanting to do the sound/hearing integration therapy, but I

am unable to come up with the cash to do it. I think that would be a

step in the right direction for Ebony. I just don't know where to

come up with the three thousand to do it.

Thanks for being here through it all with us........

I think that sounds like a fabulous idea. Floortime helped so much. 6

Months doesn't sounds that long when you're talking with people that wait

that long to see a dr. :) Best of luck to you both.

--Tamara,

Thats the whole thing, that it doesnt work for ALL kids. I think in

some cases, it holds them back. I was looking over 's old

reports from his private ABA school, and, of course, they say he

made such great progress, blah, blah, blah because its a way to

continue to get private funds. The last years report didnt say this,

I think, because they knew he wasnt returning, etc.

Floortime, is more flexible and actually fun to do. I this might be

more engaging for her. always did better with more playful

approaches. He seemed to grasp the concepts when it was presented

more naturally.

Wonderful, Tamera! Floortime helped a lot...I really believe

it is the starting point for some kids. Hope it doesn't take 6

months...in the meantime you might get the book, " The Child with

Special Needs " , by Greenspan and Weider...outlines the whole

approach. There is also an excellent piece on implementing floortime

on the web, done by an SLP named Crisler Lovendahl; can't remember

the exact site, but if you do a web search with her name, it will

come up. Long, indepth paper...all online.

Go to www.vitalsounds.com

A cheaper way to do the listening stuff...you buy a good CD walkman

(therapist will tell you which one) and special earphones (around

$125, maybe?)...then get specially created CDs that were developed by

S. Frick, S. Cool, etc; based on Tomatis, Berard, Steinbach theories,

combined with SI theory. It isn't cheap, as the CDs run from $25 to

$60 each, and you have to change them fairly often, but therapists

who do this program often have loaning libraries or exchange

programs. The site should have a phone # you can call to find a

trained therapist (probably an OT or SLP) in your area. We used that

for , and it really improved his receptive language. He

couldn't tolerate moving off the DiscEase, though, so we still have

the stuff and are waiting to try again another time.

Another option: " The Listening Program " ....very similar, but done by

over the phone consultation so less costly; slightly different

program but I hear good things about it from other therapists....no

personal experience using this one.

Floortime is great! I think both ABA and Floortime were most beneficial to

Putter. Let us know how the program is when Ebony starts it!

Oh, Tamara, that's EXCELLENT!!!!!!

Given how completely unmotivated she was by ABA, maybe Floortime is the

perfect way to go!

I am so so SO excited for you! I can't WAIT to hear how it goes!!!!!

BTW, how did you set this up? Last I heard, it was the personal care worker

crap. (grimace)

I did floortime on my own with the help of this book. Could do more,

actually, but time and circumstance always seem to get in the way...

I loved floortime because aside from the formal times of getting down on the

floor with him for 20+ minutes and really working at it, it was something I

could work into any part of the day, seizing any opportunity he provided to

push an interaction.

made great leaps when we first started with it. I can see some kids

reacting horribly to its approach, but for my kid it was just what he

needed. I hope Ebony reacts as well!

Thanks Raena! I will look into those books.

BTW....your harness is almost done. I should be able to mail it by

the end of the week. :)

I did contact vital sounds and hopefully will be able to do that next

year sometime with the family support funds. I hope anyway. We'll

see how the finances are.
