Thanks Jan for the info about thyroid disease.

I was very interested in hearing the " new " TSH ranges for what's considered

hypo. I've had Graves' Disease for about the last four years and finally after

several years of medication I am considered in remission and off medication. I

guess that means I'm temporarily hypo - my levels of LATS and TSIG were way

out of normal range on my last blood test and apparently these are the best

indications of thyroid function.

I totally agree with you about the relationship between thyroid function and

fibroids. My fibroids have grown alongside my hyperthyroidism. The fibroids

were there before but really didn't start growing until the thyroid problems

kicked in. Now, I've found (from my last u/s) that my fibroids haven't grown at

all in the last year and that may be because I've been borderline hypo for that

long.

The endocrine system is basically the " master gland system " of the body and

anything that affects it is going to affect the whole body. Being hyper just

pushes everything in the body into high gear. One thing that you noticed and

I've noticed too is the clotting/bleeding. Being hypo does seem to increase the

clotting factor although since I've been off the medication (tapazole, which

was keeping me in hypo-land) it has decreased somewhat.

Hi Rhonda-

The new ranges are for what is considered NORMAL = .03 - 3.0.

The old range went as high as 5 point something - I felt awful

when my TSH was that high after surgery yet it was " within

range " . No longer.

When I was hyper, my TSH was 0.01; at the last measurement, it

was 1.32 although it can fluctuate during the day.

Whenever I read or hear about someone feeling sluggish and

depressed, I try to get them to have their thyroid tested. Think of

the anti-depression medications that could be avoided - a lot of

people with thyroid problems are taking Effexor and Zoloft when

what they really need some thyroid hormone.

Going to a good endocrinologist who is as adept at the

subtleties of thyroid disease as diabetes is sometimes the

hardest part of being diagnosed! If I hadn't had a swollen nodule

I don't know if any of my complaints would have been taken

seriously!

Hi - do any of you have thyroid issues too? My

thyroid tested okay, but I heard that not all tests

pick up disorders and if that would make sense with

the vulvar pain. I do have a family history....okay I

know I'm reaching.......

My tests have picked up a slightly underactive thyroid and a slight

iron deficiency once for each - but nothing to worry about in either

case. I think there's always the chance of that link to other

autoimmune disorders (for instance, I have eczema, allergies,

arthritis, migraine, asthma, vulvodynia and aquagenic pruritis - which

all seem to be autoimmune problems. Luckily I don't have diabetes or

serious thyroid problems.)

On thing I've noticed about my autoimmune problems is that they tend

to wax and wane. One will get a lot worse for a while, and then settle

down - then another will get worse. Also, I seem to have developed

more problems as I've got older. I'm not sure if this is to do with

diet, stress, hormones or just would naturally happen anyway. I wish I

could just cut out all the crap in my life just to see! I'm getting

there, slowly!

I have a thyroid issue too ... I was diagnosed with papillary

carcinoma last year (cancer). And I had hashi's before that. I do

believe it's all related somehow.

Yes I have been treated for hypothyroidism for over 10 yrs. I have Vulvar disorders, IC and also Chronic Myofasical Pain (a muscular/skeletal disease): actually is a soft tissue problem. Endocrine disorders can (with many folks) be very related to all the above conditionsjessica giles wrote: Hi - do any of you have
