Hi there,

Ive been on accutane twice, both times on pretty high

dosages. All I can say is no matter how much blistex I

was applying or how much water I was drinking my lips

were still dry, cracked and bleeding... I guess there

is not much you can do about your lips except for

maybe lowering the dosage .

Hang in there,

SC.

I would try Lansinoh (basically just lanolin, sold in baby section at the

supermarket, as a nipple cream for nursing moms)..... or maybe just a little dab

of coconut oil. There's no real taste to either one. Lansinoh would stay on

better. I've used it for years.... in the wintertime when the skin around my

fingernails tends to get dry and crack from having my hands in dishwater all the

time. :)

chapped lips

What do you all do for children with chapped lips? I'm sure I'm not

the only one with a sweet babe at home obsessivly liking all around

his mouth which in turn chapps the skin around the mouth more. It is

another vicious cycle which draws attention and embarrasses our son.

He has developed the habbit (looks like tick now) of stretching out

his mouth to feel the skin crack. Certainly we can't convince him

not to do it, behaviorally we can reinforce the heck out of him when

he doesn't (boy, my tutors have a busy job!). What I would like to

do is to help heal it. Any ideas? The ingredients in chapsticks

scare me.

(beeswax, coconut oil, sunflower oil, vitamin E, lanolin, peppermint oil,

comfrey root extract, rosemary extract)

I use Lansinoh cream (basically lanolin..... sold as a nipple cream for nursing

moms), because it's safe (even for infants) and stays on really well. Burt's

Bees lip balm is nice, too.... but won't stay on as well through all the

licking.

chapped lips

My son had chapped lips and picked the skin off. This

led to more scabbing which he kept picking off. Now

his upper and lower lips are raw and new skin doesn't

have time to form because of his constant picking. Is

there anything I can put on his lips, keeping in mind

that he is licking his lips all the time? What is

safe? Thanks.

I use the Burt's Bees chap stick. It really works great.

A lot of places around here carry it. If you can't find it locally. I'm

sure you can find a place to order it online.

I use a very mild chapstick that I get from the co-op in town but the

real healing comes when he is asleep. Then I put on a bit of vitamin

E oil for the night.

Unless someone has information that it would be illegal, I'd use vitamin E

oil, or . . .

You could try olive oil, and because pure olive oil is probably not very

tasty for the child, it might actually deter the licking. . . . maybe better

yet . . .

Don't know enough about cod liver oil to know if applying it topically would

be a problem (someone else out there?), but surely the taste of that would

deter licking!! And I would think the fatty acids would promote healing

just like the vitamin E oil (tasteless) or the olive oil . . .
