Lupus and EDS

I was reading a lot about lupus the other day, and there are a lot of

similar symptoms, and symptoms that I have that belong to both

illnesses. I think I was tested once for the lupus antibodies, and

was negative, but now I'm wondering if I should be tested again.

There are so many similar illnesses, I worry if my fibromyalgia is

really MS, and so on. Does anyone here have lupus as well as EDS? Or

has paranoia set in?

Hi Tori,

I suspect my niece, who has Lupus, also has EDS; but since there are so many

similar symptoms, her doctors don't pay much attention to the EDS. She's very

hypermobile and has Lupus very badly. I don't know how one would ever get this

idea across to a doctor?!?

Hi Tori, I was actually diagnosed with Lupus before ESD, though my

ortho knew knew something was up with my joints, just not

what. " You've got some kind of connective tissue problem " , he said,

after the third failed shoulder reconstruction in 2 years, same arm.

I think that may have been what caused some of the confusion in the

beginning. I'd had joint problems and surgeries beginning as a

kid..and was diagnosed with arthritis, then Lupus by several

positive ANA titers and other symptoms amd blood tests after the

birth of my last child. The interesting thing has been that as my

EDS has seem to have gotten 'worse', or more troublesome..the Lupus

had gone into remission. My last ANA was normal!

'Course as I say that I just got home from another marathon MRI

session. Seems this arm that hasn't healed since December now has a

bone and/or joint infection, and is once again swollen about double

from shoulder to hand. It's hard to tell which causes what

sometimes, ut they think this is all EDS related so far.

If you suspect you have Lupus, you should discuss ot with your

doctor. If he doesn't see the skin signs, but you still want to rule

it out, ask for the ANA titer. He may or may not refer you to a

Rheumy, may wait for a positive result before doing so. It'll also

rule out rheumatoid arthritis, If I recall corecly at 2.30am. LOL!

It is trus that just because we have one thisn doesn't mean

somethinf else can't go wrong, too. So we need to take care of

ourselves. This from someone who last saw an ob/gyn 16yrs ago. I

know, I know..time just flies, and my baby grew up. I keep meaning

to make that 6-week check up appointment..

Best Wishes,

Jean
