The tube down his throat is probably a TEE. It is a sonagram of the heart. Normally an Echocardiagram is done by running amonitor across the chest. That way you have to look through bone, muscle and fat. Through the esophagus you get a clearer picture because there is little tissue to obstruct the view. There is a risk of injuring the varices on the way down so it is a risk benefit decision. The sonogram can look somewhat at the varices on the way down but it is not like an EGD. they said it might be around 3 hours - they are not sure again what they are going to find but they found air on the cat scan and are thinking maybe a bowel perforation, or a hole someplace, stomach, intestines, they don't know. he is so weak and his blood pressure was down to 5?/33 in the ER - they pumped him full of fluids but he needs another miracle - I ask again for your prayers! cindy, josh's momthey are also talking about putting something down his throat to monitor his heart if needed and mentioned the risk/benefit problem because of his varices and they also talked about the blood clot problem.
