I know that is easier said than done but you have nothing to lose by trying atleast. Barbara, my SPED person wanted me to say that I feared for my life for some when I really didn't. It seems that phrase is well known among the school and transportatin personnel as I heard it used a lot. 's exact age escapes me right now but remember when you have the IEP to demand Transition Planning if he is 14 or more!
