One of the autistic kids with whom I worked had had the surgery for club foot.

I just spoke with yet another parent of a child with autism who was
born with clubfoot. My son was born with severe bilateral clubfeet
which were surgically corrected. In my small group of autism-
related acquaintances, I have met four people whose children were
affected with both. This is far greater than average clubfeet
statistics would account for. Do any of your children also have
clubfoot or do you know people who have both? It would be
interesting to see if there was a connection between intrauterine
mercury exposure and clubfeet development. Just wondering....Kim
Some cases of skeletal malformations, including clubfoot, can be caused

by defects in sulfate transporters or sulfate incorporation into cells,

themselves resulting from a genetic polymorphism or mutation. Since

problems in the sulfur pathway have been found in autism, maybe there is

a link. It might not be so much that an environmental toxin caused the

clubfoot (although it could be) but that the genetic problem RE: sulfate

led to both the clubfoot and the susceptibility to mercury that led to

autism.

There are a number of web sites and papers on this if you do a google

search. Here's one, for anyone who wants to read more:

My son doesn't have a club foot, but he does have in-toeing (pigeon toed) I

think they also call it.

Wonder if that could be factored in too?

According to our pediatrician, my autistic son has 2 of the 3

deformities of club feet...although his are mild and no surgical

correction is necessary. He also has webbed toes on both feet.

My son doesn't have clubfeet, but quite severely pronated arches, especially

in the right foot.

We have clubfoot and bent toes in my family. We also had phenol

intolerance which disappeared with chelation. We are also metal

toxic.
