Deb,

No advice unfortunately....but hope that me saying that I will say extra prayers for you will comfort you! I know what you mean about pain in the butt...I am having an extreme amount of it myself right now. I will be calling the docs office here in a few to try to get in to see him today. I noticed yesterday morning a red welt and blisters around the area on my butt check incision. It looks like I had some type of allergic reaction to the clear plastic that they used. Then late last night I noticed a large red area covering a good portion of my butt check. I am scared to death that I have an infection or that my body is rejecting the implant. Neither hubby or I remember having this happen with the first surgery...so now of course I am thinking the worst! Did you have anything like this with your surgery?

I will pray for you and your butt!

Love,

Teri

-- Re: A NEW PROBLEM FROM DEBDOG

I haven't gotten in to see my doctor at this time. My physical therapist, who seems to know more anyway, is concerned. The RSD started in left ankle and leg and now has progressed to the rightankle and leg, thigh, etc. To top all that off I am having trouble with the SCS. It seems to have moved down from my upper left cheek on my butt to the middle of my butt and hurts like hell. (excuse the language) I am trying to get the doctor and Medtronic rep today. I am also having pains up in my shoulders and this did not start until We felt the SCS move Friday. I have been in bed all weekend but must go to work this AM even if just for a while to keep from losing days of work. I am really scared. Have you heard of this happening? The pain in my cheek is horrible. I guess this gives "a pain in the butt" a new definition. HA!HA! I'll let you know what happens. I still haven't figured out how to do chat nor IM Names but I will try when I feel better. I slept or stayed in bed all weekend. I checked emails once or twice then back to bed. Any advice or comforting words for this one scared puppy?

Deb,

Have they figured out yet if it is full body or not? What about your upper body, are you having pain and swelling in shoulder, arms, wrists, hands, etc? I know everyone is different so I can only tell you my experience, but it doesn't mean it is the same for you. My RSD started in my right knee after surgery. Then it spread down my right leg and into my foot. Then the left foot started hurting really bad too. Then after the lumbar block my back went crazy, then my forearms all down into my hands, my shoulders, neck....pretty much everywhere. Now the whole left leg is bad as well. When I finally got to see the specialist he confirmed that it was full body, Stage 3. I know how you felt when they told you this. I knew mine was bad but when the doc told me I was still shocked. I just kind of sat there, stunned, and repeated it to him like I didn't hear him right. I called my sister when I got home and I sounded so bad she got on a plane that night and came down to support me, to help me through the shock of finding out how bad it is. This was months ago, and now I'm still waiting for the IV treatment, fighting my insurance for it. This might be something to ask your doctor about, as the medication runs all through your body to help the full body RSD. The shock of having it full body will take some time to adjust too. You go through so many emotions but you just have to mentally pick yourself up off the ground, dust yourself off and reevaluate your situation. With me, I'm still fighting to keep my job but when the time comes that I can't work at home anymore, which I know it will, then I will have to throw in the towel. I see you are still working too, so try not to dwell too much on the RSD, save your time and energy for work and family. You have to accept what is and then work with your doctor to figure out the best way to handle it. I know this is all easier said then done. If you ever need to just vent please know I'm here. I hope this helps some. Please hang in there and enjoy the rest of your weekend. I'll talk to you soon.

<hugs> Lori
