I know some other parents who have said that yeast comes back like CRAZY after

Nystatin. Some have had better luck using natural antifungals plus SCD with

acidophilus..... either via nut yogurt or supplements. Have you read about the

carrot juice and garlic protocol? I don't know if you could get him to accept

that but Tamaro swears by this as THE best antifungal she's ever used,

by far. Sorry to hear you lost ground by going to the rice stuff....... I hope

you can get back where you wanted to be..... with all the pieces you want in

there at the same time! Hang in there.

SCD mistakes/problems

Hi,

I put my 2 yr old on SCD late May, after 6 mos gfcf.

We were seeing nice results cognitively, and went from

diaper blow outs to more like playdoh, no real trophies though.

After 8 wks. we began seeing serious eating regressions, he began

gagging, thrusting infantlike, and choking on anything that remotely

had to be chewed..he wasn't chewing at all.

We had a supplement infraction around the same time and got massive

diarreah after 2 days. I went back to inro diet, and had no luck

turning the situation around over a 2.5 wk. period. We began

probiotics and nystatin, and saw some great cognitive gains again,

and for the first time saw trophies.

My DAN dr, who highly recommends SCD, said to try adding back small

amounts of chewable gfcf food, but no more than 10 gms at a time

(calculated he said off of my son's weight which is 30lbs./ 3 gms

per 10 lbs) to use as therapy for chewing.

Well, of course, as soon as I stopped the nystatin, the blow outs

returned (after forgoing only 2 doses), but the chewing issues have

made progress and are resolving.

But now I am wits end with blowing the SCD, as I am back to square

one with bad bm's and yeast. I could just kick myself for not

finding another way around the feeding issues, as I feel that I

really set myself back with his progress on the diet.

I want to start over, but am afraid of losing gound on chewing. And

am wondering how much validity to eating the small amounts scd

illegal carbs that I fell prey to is just proof that SCD was

working, and I was an idiot to go that route.

Sorry so long. I am really frustrated looking back at the mess I

have created! Any help, much thanks.

Thanks for the info. I don't think he will drink the carrot juice, I

have tried it before, but I really want him off the nystatin. I

believe the nystatin brings the yeast back worse too(my short trial

was proof) , which is why I want him off of it.

I will try the GSE. His diet is already so low in sugar, no juice

only drinks water, and pearsauce in small amounts to get the

supplements down. And keep the probiotics up. Thanks again,

This does not sound good from a nutritional standpoint.

Children need carbs. PLEASE be certain your son is getting

enough carbs.

Diets that are very low carb, like the ketogenic diet MUST be

overseen by a qualified medical professional.

SCD is specific carbs, not low carb.

Jody,

He is 25 mos. old and 31 lbs (he actually has gained weight for the

first time in a while, on SCD, this past summer.)

The veggies are about 1/4 cup serving/pureed, and I have to grind the

chicken, so maybe 2-3 tablespoons per serving mixed with the

veggies.

I feed him about 5-6 times a day, smaller meals.

He gets 1/4 c of pearsauce 3 x a day also for his supps.

1 banana a day, and probably 2 cashew muffins, or chicken

muffins. He likes both of those for in btwn meal snacks.

He is highly reactive to beef and lamb, they are not an option.

Carrots and acorn or butternut squash are about it for veggie

choices, can't get him to go beyond that.

He is a full gagger when he comes across a taste or texture

that is new or different. We keep trying to hide or change it

up with no success.

Literally we joke in our house that the Dog is now SCD as I

throw into his bowl all that Ty won't eat! LOL!

And I have to worry about the lack of chewing, everything is so

soft, I am so concerned about his feeding regressions.
