Guest guest
I HATE HATE HATE THEM! I get grossed out to drink it. I try to put diff. things in it, put ice, etc. and still can not drink it. If i try to drink it in the morning I feel so full to where I can't drink water, then I get super thirsty. I know I need to drink them but it is so hard. How do you guys deal with this? I have a cousin who had the surgery over a year ago and she says she is not required to drink them anymore, so after a while you dont have to? Help. Guest guest
My nutritionist recommended at about a month out that I stop them. I was getting enough protein from food that I didn't need them. I only drink them now when I do a protein train. Have you tried Isopure? Some people have better luck w/ them. They look kind of like kool-aid. I personally think they're nasty; but a friend of mine loves them. She can't stand the shakes. I prefer the shakes LOL. What brand are you using? Have you tried different ones? Vitalady & Bariatric Eating both have some great flavors. W 380/316/160 wrote: > I HATE HATE HATE THEM! I get grossed out to drink it. Guest guest
Hi , Hey-- no suagr coating here. Drink your protein shakes and be done with it. This is a part of WLS. You need your protein to avoid severe muscle mass during weight loss. Make your shake and drink an ounce every five minutes with a shot glass. Finish it within an hour or just chug down as much as possible ASAP. Sip sip sip! Just do it. No one said WLS is easy. Compare drinking a crummy shake to carrying around an extra 100 pounds. Now doesn't it seem easy? Drink your protein shake. I am 3 years out and I still drink them to get extra protein when I am in no mood to eat. Robyn > > I HATE HATE HATE THEM! Guest guest
Protein shake that tastes great! I have not had WLS surgery (I'm am investigating WLS) so I am not sure if this protein shake is okay for you to drink but here is one I really like.... Myoplex Lite by EAS You can buy these at GNC or I order them online. They come in all flavors and what I like is that they do not taste/smell so vitaminy. I prefer to make the ones where I mix it myself rather than the premade ones. It isn't as convenient but they taste so good. To make them I just put in a blendar 8-10 oz water, 1 packet chocolate cream (my fav) and then ice. The ice makes them thicker. Blend away. (The package says you can make them with skim milk too) I'm listing the details so those of you that have had WLS can tell us if these are okay to drink? I'm curious about that too. 1 serving, 180 cal 25 g protein 2 g fat 15mg cholesterol 380 mg sodium 660 mg potassium 19 g total carbs (3g fiber, 1 g sugar) I started drinking these after I did a Weight Loss program through Washington University. It was the closest over the counter protein shake I found I liked that matched what I had there. They also have regular Myoplex that have more calories. I would like to know if these seem to be okay to drink? I was thinking when I read the posts about the protein shakes that I would be okay with that since I like these. Kim > > I HATE HATE HATE THEM! Guest guest
I'm having the same dilemma. The best I've had so far is ProScore chocolate, blended with ice, sugar free/caffeine free French Vanilla Creme from General Foods International Coffee, and 3 Splenda packets. It's very similar to a frappucino from Starbucks. I am a month post op, and I know I have to start getting the shakes in - but I'm waiting on my order of ProScore from Vitalady, and trying in the meantime to eat only things with protein in them. I think the best thing to do is try different recipes and see if you can mix out the nasty flavors. Guest guest
I like my shakes, especially basic vanilla protein in my morning coffee. As for not needing them, each surgeon is different. I know mine wants us off all protein shakes by 6 months out.
Guest guest
Sorry for the news but these would be a no go for me. My protein drinks have to be less than 5-7 carbs.
Guest guest
I bought some of the Pure Whey Protein Stack in Cookies and Cream. It was yummy. I've found 3 sites that sell samples....www.vitalady.com, www.bethsproteinboutique.com, and www.bariatriceating.com. It's a good way to try them and not be out a lot of $$$. You can also buy the Davinci SF syrups (about 30 flavors) to add to them. I have over 30 of the samples that I am trudging through. I actually made an excel sheet so I can keep track. I think they make a great desert. I am preop and I add a few strawberries and half a banana to vanilla powder. I don't know if that is allowed for post op or not. My nutritionist said it would be but it might be too many calories. I haven't found a chocolate I like very much but they are drinkable. The only one that I couldn't finish was a pineapple one. I was very disappointed because I love pineapple. The next one I am going to try is IDS vanilla cinnamon. It came highly recommended, so I have high hopes. in MI > > I like my shakes, especially basic vanilla protein in my morning > coffee. As for not needing them, each surgeon is different.
