Guest guest
I'm sorry you're both having to worry about your sons and their mental health. I guess it makes me feel blessed. My daughter's pediatrician was willing to treat her with Zoloft years ago when I first saw signs of depression. And yes, even at age 8, she sometimes talked about being better off dead. Last year, I took her to the psychiatrist at our mental health clinic who specializes in children. It was a 6 week wait to get into him, but then he was willing to put her on Cymbalta which technically isn't recommended for under age 18. It seemed to help her quite a bit, and then she kept forgetting to take it once summer was here, so she hasn't been on any meds this school year and is doing fine. She had one incident last year where she talked about suicide, and this is what prompted me to get her into this psychiatrist. But she was mostly embarrassed about it, and wished she could take it back after then. So, I don't know if this helps you out at all. Nancie, you will have a fight on your hands to get your son help as well as yourself. Don't give up. And Tammi, good luck with the counseling for your son. I don't know how he is sharing his feelings, but I imagine if he's like a lot of males, he will find it difficult. Take care. Jeanne in WI > Nancie, what happened to your son is just awful. Is he getting help now > or are you still getting a different therapist? My he is so young too. > Oh, my prayers are with you. I don't know what I would do in your shoes. > I think I would have had a hissy in the docs office. I know my hubby would have. Did you contact the group about this doctor? They should do a better job with these things especially when it comes to the kids. My 17 year old son is suppose to go see a physcologist (spelling has never been my strong suit). Our doctor doesn't want to touch prescibing a teen with depression meds. Nic has fibro and you know teens are moody. I hope I don't have that kind of deal with him. Our group doesn't cover the doctor mine recommended so now I either play the guess game or " eat " the cost of the other. I'm REALLY thinking of just going to the recommended one. > > Tammi
