Guest guest
My NT daughter's were like that for the first month or two on SCD. Then they became a more " normal " color. I think she wasn't properly digesting the food she was getting because she had been so sick and the food was not visible exactly but retained it's color and texture more than if she had been digesting it properly. Once we had her digestion healed, her stools have been great. , Mom to IBD daughter, age 9, whole family SCD 11/03, other daughters ages 12 and
Guest guest
> I am curious to know if any of your ASD children have had gritty, > sand-like stools. I have been told this is bile salts, but no one has ever explained whether or not this is good or bad. My son used to have them all the time before any diet changes. I think he has had one since gfcf. We are getting ready to start SCD. But my baby, who is somewhat gfcf had one just the other day. I would really like to know if what bile salts in BM MEANS, if anyone knows. I will do some research too, and see if I can figure it out! Guest guest
ahhh!! a fellow researcher!! i have posted this question many times, and from what i can tell, they **are** some type of bile salt. another possible explanation are dreaded gallstones. :-( see the following link: http://www.acg.gi.org/patientinfo/cgp/cgpvol2.html#Gallstones now... when i was searching, i also found some info on enemas that are supposed to help cleanse these out, and restore the colon/liver to health. some pretty crazy stuff but i may just be desperate enough to try it out. i would like to avoid the drugs they mention in the post above. below is a link to the enema page i found. warning... there is some **REALLY** graphic poop talk there. http://curezone.com/cleanse/enema/ shannon. > > > I am curious to know if any of your ASD children have had gritty, > > sand-like stools. > > I have been told this is bile salts, but no one has ever explained > whether or not this is good or bad. Guest guest
This is going to sound way too simplistic, I bet, but I thought my son's was from a supplement he takes. He was having about 3 weeks of diarrhea from a bug or something, and if his stool got in the tub, it would be like sand on the beach -- part of it would be hard to rinse like thin crystalline sludge. I attributed this to the supplement caplets. They contain magnesium sillicate (talc) if that means anything, also cellulose. If they ever start to " melt " in his mouth, they are granular and rough looking. Guest guest
There were just some messages that were re-posted in the past week or so from Elaine on this subject. You may have to backtrack through the posts at the website, b/c I'm really not sure what the subject line was...... something along the lines of sandy/gritty poop. From what I've seen on this list, it's reported now and then with kids in the beginning stages of SCD...... not sure why....... seems to be temporary. I imagine detoxing involves the liver..... cleansing..... changing metabolism, etc. I know that's not really an explanation. I don't think it's seriously urgent...... though you may want to check with your DAN doc, or regular pediatrician. Patti Gritty, Sand-like Stools I am curious to know if any of your ASD children have had gritty, sand-like stools. My son (who has ASD) has been on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet for about a little over a month (having switched from the GFCF Diet to this one) and his bowel movements changed for the better (actually firmer and not as loose/mushy). After having one of his most normal-like bowel movements in his entire little life, the following day they started to become gritty, almost sand- like. Does any one know what this may be an indication of? Is this a die-off reaction? We are not currently treating him with an anti- fungal...just probiotics. Or do you think this could be a food allergy type reaction? Any feedback you can share with me would be gratefully appreciated. Sincerely, Kerstin For information on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, please read the book _Breaking the Vicious Cycle_ by Elaine Gottschall and read the following websites: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info and http://www.pecanbread.com
