I don't know if this is true but this is what our DAN dr told us. IF YOUR

CHILD HAS INFLAMMATION such as colitis the antibacterials and antifungals cannot

do a good job of getting rid of everything. Because of all the nooks and

crannies caused by the inflammation it cannot wipe out all the yeast and

clostridia. You need to get rid of the inflammation, possibly with meds like

sulfasalazine and then use anti-fungals and flagyl with better success. SCD

should help

prevent further problems.

Go after the bugs first, then go after candida with antifungal while you are

also giving high dosage of multi probiotics.

I am talking about 60 to 100 billion Units to suppress bad bacterial regrowth.

If you are uncomfortable with this number

do some research or post a message and see what other parents think.

Look at research from Shaw, Ph.D, director of Great Plains Lab., he

wrote a very good book about this.

Culturelle is supposed to be very good because clostridia can go into spore form

and survive normal drugs.

Have a look at Gold-Bio Defence from Kirkmann, Pro-Bio-Defence is the same as

Gold-Bio-Defence but

has Saccharomyces boulardi (a yeast) in it that is suppose to kill the candida.

Some treat candida only with this kind of yeast but some people claim

(hearsay!!!) that it will produce

overgrowth of other forms of yeast.

Have also a look at Pro-Immune Support, it has 7.5 billion CFU's of

Lactobacillus Plantarum in it, this is the same

as the Lactobacillus GG in Culturelle (20 billion Units). Lactobacillus GG /

Culturelle is a tradename. The GG stand for

the two doctors (we are all grateful to) found out the wonderful properties of

this bacteria.

I have Pro-Immune Support in my probiotic schedule for my little son and do this

" just to make sure " that they will not come back.

Price wise it is a good deal.

[ ] How to combat really bad clostridia?

I am SO VERY disappointed. We got our son's most recent OAT-Urine

back today, expecting to have the gut bugs under control. Instead, we

find that we are on a yeast-clostridia see-saw. First, we combat

clostridia with culturelle. It goes down, but yeast flares up. Then,

we combat yeast with sporanox. It goes down but now clostridia has

gone way, way up: HPHPA of 1276 (ref range 0-150). Now I know why the

poor kid has been so glazed for the last week or two. The heart-

breaking thing is that right after getting yeast down, but before

clostridia goes up, we have these incredibly wonderful couple of

days, a hint of how great things could get... I am just so sad.

I have an appt with my DAN dr on Monday. The question is, how can we

get off the see-saw? How can we wipe out the clostridia without

causing yeast to flare up? I understand clostridia is hard to

eliminate. Should I go off fruit entirely (we are SCD)? Is TMG bad

because it's a polysaccharide? Give massive doses of culturelle? Take

Flagyl? Vancomycin? TouefF?

I'd appreciate any insights... Sigh.

Biocidin from Biobotanicalresearch.com helps with clostridia and also

has some anti-yeast properties. You can give it and lots of

probiotics between and watch for symptoms: stimmy means clostridia,

silly means yeast. GSE helps against yeast, but give very little as

it is strong and you will get clostridia again.

I give advices but I wish I could fix it myself for my son...
