Guest guest
Hi all, This is for an off line person. He is wondering if his sclera is blue. That that is hard to see considering the blue pupils and blue line around the pupil. Any ideas? Is the white of the eye REALLY blue or are we talking blue veins showing in the eye? And what of brown, black, green, hazel, gray and other color eyes. Do they have the blue sclera? Thank you for any input. A site with pictures of the sclera would be nice too. Caro. Guest guest
Caro, Blue sclera seems to show up in the EDSers in my family, no matter the eye color. I know I've heard the reason, but have forgotten. {We haven't been put into any type- as we have some signs from most of them and also have nerve entrapments that are a part of the EDS we have.} There is an article out there that mentions it though. I'll see if I can find it for you. H Wisc. From: CDillardda@... This is for an off line person. He is wondering if his sclera is blue. Guest guest
Caro, I found this in the article Ehlers-Danlos and Collagen of the Eye. If you'd like the article I can send off line to you. BLUE SCLERA The sclera is the white of the eye or the thick outer coat of the eyeball. =20A bluish appearance is attributed to a thinning of the sclera. The thinning is most noticeable at the limbus (where the cornea meets the white of the eye) thus creating the a blue " halo " at the limbus. The blue halo becomes less prominent with aging and the normal decrease in scleral transparency. Blue sclera is considered to be a prominent feature of osteogenesis imperfecta and EDS.3, 4,
