dark ring around anal opening--why?

I know that a red ring around anal opening can signal yeast but what

do you think it means when there is a perpetually dark ring there?

If I do not put an ointment on it, then within a day or so, it looks

like the skin is sloughing off. I am all over the internet tonight

and not coming up with any ideas as to why... just wondering if

anyone else encounters it with their child? I will be doing the

sticky tape test for pinworms, but I just can't think of what else it

could be...
