HI all... just found this interesting for anyone on birth control pills, a short little video here:

http://www.notmypill.org/

It's one a young girl made herself talking about double the risks of blood clots etc with any type of birth control with ''desogestrel'' and the real risks and dangers they are not being told. She's determined that the world knows about this (I give her credit) *smile* anyway I looked up a few products (birth control) that have that ingredient desogestrel she talks about so for what it's worth but honestly haven't done any deeper research on it. Dee~

==========================

Mircette® A birth control pill used for acne as well. desogestrel 0.15

Desogen® desogestrel 0.15 Ortho-Cept® desogestrel 0.15

Cyclessa (Organon )

25 mcg EE and triphasic desogestrel

Cyclessa, a triphasic preparation containing 25 ug of ethinyl estradiol with increasing doses of desogestrel (100, 125, and 150 ug days 1 to 7, 8 to 14, and 15 to 21, respectively)

Implanon (an implant form)

The rod contains 68 mg of etonogestrel, an active metabolite of desogestrel.

NOTES from various places:

Studies have reported that women taking these medications have decreased levels of vitamin B12 in the body. Supplementation with the affected nutrient may be necessary. These drugs include norethindrone, ethynodiol diacetate, norgestrel, norgestimate, ethinyl estradiol, drospirenone, desogestrel,

levonorgestrel .

Desogestrel showed significant binding (40 to 70% of testosterone) to AR (androgen receptors) Desogestrel, in combination with ethinyl estradiol, does not counteract the estrogen-induced increase in SHBG (sex hormone-binding globulin). This has the effect of lowering the levels of free testosterone.

Soon after the introduction of third-generation pills ( desogestrel and gestodene -containing pills), several studies were published that reported an increased incidence of VTE ( venous thromboembolism) with these new pills. Pills with the newer progestin, desogestrel, have been shown to increase the risk for clotting much more so than other progestins. Of course, it took several years of women using these newer pills to determine this.
