Guest guest
Hi Charlie ... I am a brand new member and haven't even posted to the group yet and I hope I will be forgiven for just jumping right in without an introduction but I wanted to pass on a suggestion that might help your sweet wife, " Babs " . It may not work because different things work for different people but if there's even a small chance that it might work I would feel bad if I did not share it with you. Restorative sleep is almost impossible for people with FMS which is so sad because good sleep is one of the best things we can do. I have had FMS for over ten years and not being able to sleep was huge problem. It takes forever to get to sleep and then you wake up a dozen times a night. My solution happened quite by accident. My daughter gave me one of those little machines that makes different sounds ...ocean, rain, summer night, waterfall, etc. because she knows I love the sound of rain. The first night I turned it on when I went to bed and fell asleep listening to the sound of rain. It took a couple of nights to get used to it but now I usually fall asleep within 5-10 minutes. I don't know how I could ever live without it. I have had it for almost a year and it has improved the quality of my sleep. It runs on electric (not batteries) so it runs all night and I sleep through the night without waking up. It was a true blessing and I wish that it would work for everyone like it does for me. I would also like to say that it is so caring of you to seek help for your wife from the group. There are so many of us that do not have a caring partner that will even try to understand how we feel. It is refreshing to see that you are so dedicated to your wife and her well being. I have been doing a bit of reading to understand the " feel " of how things work here and it didn't take very long to find out that there are many caring people here to give comfort to you and your wife. They are very knowledgeable about medications, therapy and many others things that they very willing to share. The world mourns over the loss of such a lovely and special person such as Benazir Bhutto but it is more personal for your wife ... please tell her she is not alone in her grief. Please give her a big soft hug and let her know that we care. It sounds like people use all kinds of different methods and substances to control their pain. When there is time, I will read through all the posts and find out about all of this for my wife <<<
Guest guest
Do you know where your daughter bought it? I have a fountain, which I love, it's made to dispense aromatherapy oils into the air as well as look and sound beautiful, HOWEVER....I can't sleep with it on. It makes me get up and pee about a half dozen times at night. I know it's a subconcious thing, it doesn't do that to me during the day, but nonetheless, I don't usually wake up even once during the night when it's not running. I would love something that made ocean sounds, and don't think it would cause the same problems. I've been looking for a CD of ocean sounds that I really like, but haven't found one yet. What I have in mind is the sound of the surf with the ocean birds in the background, something that really sounds like when I really DID live on the seashore. During the summers I would sleep outside just so I could enjoy the sounds all night long. Made for THE sweetest dreams. And yes, many ocean birds are nocturnal, so I did hear them most of the night. I would love to live on a houseboat, but know it's too much work for me now even if I could afford to do so. At least with the machine or a good CD I could dream about it most nights.
