2.5:1 ratio...question/weaning

Hi all,

My son began having seizures (brought on by illness) in June after

being 100% controlled without meds for 1 1/2 years on the diet. We started

medication (keppra) and began weaning the diet. We have been at 2:5 ratio

for 4 weeks now, and had been holding moderate ketosis

level...however, today we tested his urine ketones and I only got a reading

as Trace. When 's ketones fell to moderate, we had to add another 1/2

of keppra to his dose because I was seeing a lot of blinking. However, I am

not seeing seizure activity today.

This past week, has been not wanting his cream and giving us a hard

time about finishing his meal, I think he is just ready to be off the diet.

I did tell the dietitian this, but I never thought Trace ketosis would

result...I really thought we had been doing a better job and truly expected

the moderate ketosis to still be there today. On Monday, we were going to

drop the ratio to 2:1.

Just curious what I should do with the diet this weekend. Should I continue

as planned and just keep testing his ketones, or cut some carbs back to get

back to moderate? I have never gotten a Trace result before, and feel a

little worried.

Any experiences or opinions would be helpful,

Thanks,

KGD 11/00
