Our eight year old has suffered from stool incontinence for almost two years

now and we're finally realizing the fight is really against constipation--that

diarrhea (sometimes very large amounts) is slipping around stool blockage.

He's been on SCD for four months and is improving on so many levels that daily

surprise and even shock us (playing with his brother, calmer, more focussed,

more talkative, I could go on and on...) but even as he's producing glorious

trophies every three days or so, he's still having almost as many " leakage "

accidents. Clearly SCD is helping with this, but I'm thinking we have to start

addressing hte issue more aggressively. (Yesterday, he had three loose,

horrible smelling stool leaks during the day. Ugh.) WE've started Elaine's

constipation protocol yesterday and I'm curious how long that has taken to start

working for kids? DO some kids stay on a bit of prune juice indefinately to

keep

this tendency from coming back? Also has anyone tried neuro/bio feedback for

bowel control?

Thanks ahead of time for any stories of success. I " d love to hear what's

worked for people.

mother of Ethan (8, ASD, SCD four months)

Here is my encopresis info:

I needed to do this with my son and it worked. You need to keep the

bathroom schedule regularly whether they feel like going or not. And

do it for at least 6 months even if stools appear more regular before

that. I used magnesium as the 'laxative' of choice. Let me know if

you have any questions on what we did.

Best,

.
