Guest guest
My 10 year old daughter Mackenzie has been on the diet now since October 27-we seemed to gain some initial control then lost it and could not regain when we dropped pheno from 60 to 45mg and zonegran from 500 to 400mg at the same time. Well we first went back up on zonegran then still no control 2 weeks later and upped the pheno to 60mg. 8 days ago. Control again. As you may remember we had lots of problems with nauseau and vomiting so dropped to 3:5-1 and better- still sick about once a week. We have decided to not change anything for now and see how we are this month with no changes because our first month on keto ended up with about 80 seizures which was about what we had the previous month. Well now for my question this weekend Kenzie was very tired and was having what seemed like hot flashes-facial flushing, would get very hot and dizzy, weak, would have to sit or lay down and would say her head hurt. Did this over 2 days about 5 times. At first thought might be excessive ketosis- hadn't vomited since Tuesday but very nauseous Sunday morning. So Sunday gave her some sips of orange juice-seemed to do better but by yesterday evening did it again. She always has dark ketones-we have never been out of ketosis since starting diet and always dark purple- no matter day or night. So now thinking side effect of meds possibly or could we still just be too ketotic? If side effect of med could we just be seeing. Has been on both of these meds as well as trileptal since June. I thought possible her phenabarb level going back up could be causing and needed to adjust to it again-that's why so tired all of the weekend. I know this is long-sorry-just trying to figure out the latest symptoms. Thanks, Melinda
Guest guest
Probably too deep ketosis. Maybe you should drop to 3:1.
