Guest guest
I don't have anything to say about it either way. Our daughter was on it, but it never did much good. She didn't learn at all though, but she was also on Lamictal. Diane
Guest guest
We had very good results with Topamax, but ONLY in conjunction with the diet! My son had no side affects from it except a little weight gain problem but they also said something else could have caused it since he is only fed through a G-tube. I would go with it if you and your doc are comfortable with it. Candi, mother of Skylar, 19 months
Guest guest
YES! It works differently with every child. Like I said in the other post, it worked well with my son but only WITH the diet. He no longer needs it anymore though. Candi, mom of Skylar
Guest guest
Topamax -- increased seizures tremendously, eliminated speech, slowed thinking to a crawl, finally caused a whole body rash which led to a hospitalization. Not our favorite drug. Jane Topamax Anybody have good or bad experiences to share about Topamax? Topamax w/Trileptal or Topamax w/diet? Guest guest
Our daughter, , was on Topamax plus Lamictal and Phenobarbital when she started the diet. Our keto team suggested getting rid of Topamax the first because of its incompatibility with the KGD. We attribute 's speech delays to the Topamax. In fact the information sheet the CVS Pharmacy lists speech delays as a possible side affect. We do not like Topamax. Dan Currier Topamax Anybody have good or bad experiences to share about Topamax? Guest guest
Ann, Shan was on topamax and tegretol (some klonipin at night) when she started the diet. The topamax in itself did not eliminate the seizures but along with tegretol it improved the seizures. Shan was in bad shape behaviorly and cognitively when she started the topamax to know if it worked negatively on her mind from the beginning. But as we weaned her off it we noticed that her thinking process improved greatly. She use to sit in a car and ask the same question over and over (simple, obvious questions that she should know and has known). This basically resolved with the weaning of the topamax. Others have shared the same experience where cognitive ability went down hill with it. Also, it increased her metabolism. While on it we had to give her up to 1350 (now at 1200 cal) calories to get her enough calories. She literally looked like a starved child after the fast (minus the bloated stomach) which I'm sure is due to having her at 1000 calories at the beginning. One thing I did notice after taking her off the topamax that it had helped mask the extrememe behavior and negative attitude side effect of tegretol. The combination of diet, tegretol, and being very tired and low energy gave Shan suicidal thoughts that had not been there until the topamax was gone. Guest guest
Love it! I'm only half laughing because when was on a higher dose of zonegran (which has some of the same mind-numbing properties), we put his food in front of him (pre-diet) and he looked at me like he didn't know what to do. I literally had to tell him to eat his food! It was pitiful. ashley ---------- From: sjlit@... To: ketogenic Subject: Re: Re: Topamax Date: Mon, Oct 28, 2002, 8:02 AM <<Just a comment on Topamax.... People on Topamax lose weight because they become too stupid to find the food. " And still they prescribe it!
