Let's hope that finally Mikey will be taken care of properly! Poor child.

You didn't mention anything about a blue or ashen tone to his skin, but since

PDD-NOS is in the autism spectrum and many A-Kids suffer recurrent ear

problems... has Mikey been given the antibiotic Chloromycetin before for ear

infections?

If so, you may want to check this link out because the stuff is very risky and

you should know it can occur weeks or months after using it:

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/uspdi/202126.html

Here's the side effects they list:

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Rare--may also occur weeks or months after you stop using this medicine

Bluish tone to the skin ; changes in blood pressure or heart rate; eating

problems; irregular breathing ; pale skin; passage of loose green stools;

sore throat and fever; stomach bloating with or without vomiting; unusual

bleeding or bruising; unusual tiredness or weakness

Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects

occur:

Less common

Blindness or changes in vision; burning, itching, redness, skin rash, swelling,

or other sign of irritation not present before use of this medicine; diarrhea;

fever; hallucinations; headache; mental confusion; mild depression; nausea;

stomach pain; swollen mouth and tongue ; unpleasant taste; vomiting

Measles as you ask about are a viral infection so it's not safe to suggest that

this isn't anything " viral " . Titer tests are done for measles if you strongly

suspect this. Did Mikey have a strong reaction to the MMR jab?

Bloating and loose or watery, green stools can be due to a virus, parasites, a

bowel infection, stress, anxiety or a food intolerance. Have you been over any

of these possibilities with doctor(s) so far? If not, you should today. I will

comment that autistic children don't tolerate dairy or grains as they cause all

kinds of gut problems, and a lot of A-kids improve greatly once the dairy and

grains are removed.

[ ] Questions about Tests

Hi guys, we have finally gotten my son in to see a GI. His appt. is

in the morning and i'm hoping you all can tell me some tests that I

should ask him to run that might be helpful. He has had NO stomach

workup at all other than a couple of blood draws that his ped did

for amylase and another I don't remember. Anyway Mikey is 4 dx'd

with PDD-NOS and complains/cries daily and nightly with his stomach.

He has loose green stools (sorry for the description) and throws up

on a regular basis. He's also very bloated. This isn't anything

viral, not something that has just happened but has been constant

for a long time. One of the things I have heard people mention is

measles in the gut...does anyone know how to test for that? I just

want to go in there tomorrow prepared, I don't want to get the run

around, and to be honest the gut is not something I know that much

about. So what do I ask for, and what do I not let him tell me?

Thanks a bunch,

Sam

He sounds like a great candidate for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, which

could heal his gut!

I'm truly hoping that i'm just really sleep deprived right now and

you're not saying that i haven't been taking care of my child!

Mikey has only had one ear infection, and was on amoxicillin for

that. He has been extremely healthy as far as infections go. That's

interesting to know though because my daughter has been on to many

antibiotics to count so i'll remember that name!! Thank You!!

Hi Sam,

I'm not a doctor, just a mom but if this were my kid I would suspect

bleeding in the lining of the stomach or digestive system maybe caused by

bacteria, yeast, fungus, parasites.I would ask for a comprehensive stool and

parasitology test thru Great Smokies and ask about giving a super duper

probiotic to help his gut get back in shape.Hope I helped....
