News coverage about the young boy that hung himself in the closet. Please check

your local listings for time.

Take care,

Wednesday, October 29, 2003

J. Scruggs was failed by everyone -- by the school where he was being

violently bullied, by the child protection agencies that were supposed to

protect him, and most importantly, by his mother who was supposed to help him.

He was so desperate for protection that he slept in the closet with knives. That

is, until the day the 12-year-old hanged himself in the same closet where he

slept. Correspondent Vicki Mabrey talks to 's mother, who was recently

convicted in connection with his death.

Also, a box in the garage that she never opened held the secret she had been

searching for all her life: the truth about the father she never knew, who died

in Vietnam 34 years ago. Tragos never asked about him; she knew it was too

painful for her mother. Then one day, she had enough of the silence.

turned on a video camera and started asking her mother questions about the man

she never knew. Her questions became a quest to retrace her father's death, and

in the end, she found his life. Correspondent Bob Simon talks to Tragos

about her search.

And last, we hear from one angry American who has been singing his way to the

top of the charts with his pro-American lyrics. Correspondent Dan Rather sits

down with country music star Toby .

Be sure to watch 60 Minutes II, tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
