Wow, thanks .  I'll have to double check with our DAN to see where our Vit D levels are.  I suspect I'm way under-dosing Vit D.

 

It took over 1y of 5000iu/day of D3 to get my 120# daughter's levels from 19 to 76[our doc likes to see over 80.] For some reason, testing last fall showed a decline to 58. We did 10,000iu/day for 2 mos which got levels back to 86. Recommendations now of 8-9000/day for maintenance from our doc.

we use buffered mag oxide because the citrate causes the runs for our son,he is fine on the oxide ,didnt know it may be a problem

 

Mag Oxide, like Oxypowder would be very appropriate if the child has constipation, especially if it has been a problem for a long time like it is in so many of our kids. It should be paired w as much vitamin C as it takes to support the child, (1000mg per day in our house) until BMs are coming at a regular frequency then citrate form of magenesium would be the best ongoing, going forward for a good every day magnesium.

Aloe vera juice works well - 2x a day. You can also try the "P" fruits, pears, plumes, peaches and apricots, they help poop. Honestly I use baby food prunes, my son loves them and after one jar he poops 2 times within 2 hours after. :-)

I thought the mag oxide was only if the child has diarrhea as it usually has a constipating effect. We use mag glycinate because (supposedly) it's the most gentle on the stomach. It was very effective for us for awhile but now my daughters constipation is creeping back w/ the use of iron. Now I'm in a pickle because she is responding very well to the iron but this constipation cannot continue! Any thoughts? No, Mag oxide is for constipation. I use it for myself everyday because I suffer from extreme constipation. If I miss my dose, the next day I won't go. A lady at her health food store told me the difference between the different mag

I guess if Andy Cutler and Jerry Kartzinel say avoid oxide, we probably should. :-) I use Thorne's citrate with no problems. I give my son one a day and he poops every day sometimes 2 x a day.

People who are mercury toxic should avoid magnesium oxide, per Andy Cutler. Most of our kids are mercury toxic. One of the best recommended magnesiums is glycinate. > > > > Hi

I give my 3 year old son a multivitamin 2x a day with 200 mg of magnesium in it AND one Thorne Research Magnesium Citrate 140 mg, so total 340mg a day.That works for my son.

My aunt has always been constipated and tried everything. I bought her the magnesium and told her to take it 2x a day and she hasn't been constipated since, that was 2 months ago, now she hates doctors. :-) She has been to specialists and nothing has worked.
