He has these sores on his head only. It seemed that we had these sores gone

for about two weeks, now presto! He has two back on his head again. They always

start, appearing as a red spot, then it raises into a boil, that eventually

starts weeping the golden fluid. He never gets this anywhere else on his body

Soundslike an elimination trip....toxic discharge.........and heat......what

kind of diet is the kid on?

My NT son has impetigo right now, and has in the past. He has good success

with the Bactroban cream, but you've probably already tried that.

How much Zinc? Zack was having a good bit of runny bm's while on zinc. When I

stopped the zinc, his bm's became normal.

What do you mean, elimination trip? He is on a typical diet, with Houston

enzymes, all three. He is also on Candex. He is on several different

supplements.

Dana, Zack first developed impetigo on his head when he was just around one year

old. He was constantly on every antibiotic you can think of for this, and

sinus/ear infections. It was being on antibiotics for 30 days at age 3 1/2 for

the impetigo( it was all over his head at this point) that started Zack having

autistic symptoms. Before that, he was a normal little boy. Nothing seems to

make this go away. I did not have Zack on any supplements when he was age 1,

besides a daily vitamin.

Yes, I should own stock in Bactroban now!! Bactroban is like putting water on

it. It does absolutely nothing to the sores.

I'm just wondering--are you sure it's impetigo? Even though your description

sounds exactly like it, could some weird viral thing be mimicking it?

USUALLY impetigo is near the mouth--although I guess it could be anywhere, like

the back. But could this be some strange chicken-pox-shingles-herpes mutation?

Like maybe Valtrex might help--forgive me if you've already been down the

anti-viral path.

Good luck--it's always nice to have that extra medical thing to deal with when

we have so little else to consume our anxieties.

I am making an appointment with a dermatologist next week to get this cultured.

I know what most impetigo looks like and have had two other boys to have the

typical type on the face and nose.

But it can and does colonize on people's scalp. Usually people do get well with

antibiotics. This is such a typical scenario of Zack's unresponsiveness to

antibiotics. No matter what is going on with him, antibiotics do not work. His

medical folder is 2 inches thick (no kidding), and it is from constant

antibiotics, back to back, because they did not work.

The last time he was on them was at Christmas, which caused a HUGE regression.

We are determined that we will do all that we can to avoid antibiotics in the

future.

Our biggest problem is finding a doctor capable of finding out why.

When I was a young child, I had eczema which frequently turned into

impetigo. The doctor had my mother smear steroid cream on the

affected area, then cover it with plastic wrap [if the area was

amenable to doing that]. It was the " treatment " that was known at the

time.

I had a serious milk problem when I was younger, plus a few other

foods. When I stopped drinking as much milk, the impetigo basically

went away.

One of my kids has a skin presentation, just like I did. His skin

problems will grow into impetigo with certain foods and/or

supplements. His most recent skin problem came with the addition of a

supplement, which I removed and the skin problem resolved in less than

24 hours.

Just FYI, for my family, ear/sinus problems are yeast related, so

giving antibiotics just makes them worse.

It might not be this way for your family, but it is for mine.

Yeast can also cause this for my son with a skin presentation. He

does not have eczema either, he just gets the sores as you describe.

So yes, might be the yeast.
