It takes about 2 weeks to notice anything but some report immediate results. I know with my PDD kid it was an immediate notice but took 6 months to get all the junk out of his system to have normal stools. Do you suspect allergies - any weird rashes, poops, etc. My husband was never tested for allergies but when we had my son dx by Dr. Megson, she asked to look at my husband's hands -- she said Rich had a gluten issue - he told her that it was just dry skin - oh, no she said Anyway, Rich went wheat free and within 1 month really felt great!! He slipped one week with a taco binge and broke out in a really bad rash!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say, he is gluten free again! I agree with this line of thinking. I don't consider allergy tests very accurate. Eliminating foods for 10 days - 2 weeks, then adding them back (individually) to check for a reaction has been the most accurate way for us to determind food allergies. Guest guest Posted August 10, 2003 Report Share Posted August 10, 2003 We do use the enzymes but it really is for maintence not to correct the real dietary issues of gluten and casein allergies - I don't count on anything to grab all the bad stuff for Pat from his gut. According to J. McCandless, there has been study that looked at the gluten and casein issue with ADD/ADHD kids and they were found to have this issue - see her book Children with Starving Brains, 2003 edition. Guest guest Posted August 10, 2003 Report Share Posted August 10, 2003 I chelated my 15yr old ADHD son a few times, he said he felt better and could think more clearly. I plan to do it some more, but being 15, ADHD, I can't count on him taking his meds regularly while I'm not around, so we save it for school vacations or weekends when he doesn't have a sporting activity....so it doesn't happen often, but still doing it. He also has asthma, and does better asthma and brain wise while not on milk....but again, a stubborn 15 yr old that doesn't listen to his mother anymore, and he loves milk (of coarse). Dorian isn't bad about doing his homework, he has to show it to us before he can go play or get on the computer, unfortunately, it rarely makes it from home onto the teachers desk. And I just found out that homework is 90% of the grade at his high school. They don't care if it's right...just had to be turned in done. Sorry to rant, but this REALLY TICS ME OFF!!!! His test scores are always above 80%, but they want the kids to do sloppy work to earn their grade. Aren't grades suppose to show what the kid has learned??????? If anyone has any ideas on taking on school policy, please let me know!!!!! Guest guest Posted August 10, 2003 Report Share Posted August 10, 2003 If my son reacts to food dyes, I have never noticed it. I have never really noticed any type of reaction with any foods he eats. My son was not a head banger, and seem like such a bright child when he was small. Now, he still seems very intelligent, just so easily distracted. He has a very hard time concentrating. Getting him to do home work, chores, or yard work is like pulling teeth! He will keep coming and asking questions about things that have absolutely nothing to do with what he is supposed to be doing. ANd he does get discipline. So it is not that. He just can't seem to stay on task. And I will not put him on any of the ADD drugs. I think we will give the enzymes a try. Thanks for the feedback! I don't know why there seems to be so much ADD now days, I think it is also linked to the vaccines. I really do hate to try chelation on him though. We are chelating now. We did the NAET testing. Lately I have been reading the files on the board. I too am getting very interested in enzymes. The files talk about people having some success with enzymes without being gfcf. It's diffcult for me tell what my son reacts to, but he definitely reacts to food dyes. Lookout for Kool-Aid Bursts, skittles etc. with my son. We don't let him have the obvious dyes or sugar. I was wondering if your son also reacts to the dyes. I would like to try the enzymes and No-Phenol. Dana has a description on her website for phenol reactions that really describe my son. My son was a headbanger, was your son also? I guess I'm just trying to figure out if there are certain things that tend to help the ADHD kids more than the autistic ones, as my son does not respond to things like my mildly autistic child. I have a 9yo ADD/CAPD. I reduced his milk and phenol intake instead of full diet and/or enzymes. I am chelating him, he has completed 31 rounds so far. And his issues are much better.
