Guest guest
Having trouble finding starter. One is by NATREN, it has Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Streptococcus thermophillis, no acidophillis. The other is by YOGURMET, it has all 3 ingredients, which is the right one to get? Funny, we can't have fermented foods yet yogurt is fermented?? Thanks
Guest guest
Yogourmet has the three you want. The other one will ferment okay..... but won't deliver any bacteria that will take up residence in the gut. So, you want the acidophilus, too. Another legal starter is the one made by Custom Probiotics. The link is on the www.pecanbread.com website. BTW, fermented foods (like sauerkraut, kimchi) are allowed on SCD..... just not recommended for beginners because the veggies are not cooked and are harder to digest. Guest guest
, Fermented food has been a part of SCD since the days of Dr Haas. Dr Haas recommended both sauerkraut and yogurt. There is a scientist who specializes in SCD and fermentation and his name is Seth Barrows. He has been advocating kefir, yogurt, and cultured vegetables as part of SCD for many years. Here is an article about SCD and fermented foods by Seth Barrows : http://f5.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/8I0iQdZfEgIrN5aoRhnKSTLvDi28o_D4KXcvTliZB3YRvG53j87\ G416ZCJfon8t8AkkHmStO7pf8t3vck7b6oatkMKFHDOwWIQ/SCDiet%20Fermented%20Foods%20rev Here is Seth Barrows' website: http://healingcrow.com/ferfun/ferfun.html Here is Seth Barrows' list to get help for SCD and fermented foods: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/HealingCrow/ Mimi > > Having trouble finding starter. I have three yogurt makers, one of them is a salton, 5 cup. > Which commercial brand (name and everything) yogurt do I use and how much? You can find this info and more at http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/yoghurt/yog_s tarters.htm If you use commercial yogurt it is 1/4 C commercial yogurt for one litre/one quart of milk; 1/2 C of commercial yogurt for 2 L/ (or 2 quarts) of milk. If you use commercial yogurt instead of powdered yogurt starter make sure that you use a sterile spoon each time and keep it in the coldest portion of your refrigerator. It should stay good for a couple of weeks. > Which brand/kind goat milk makes the best yogurt? http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/yoghurt/milk. htm Sheila 42 mos SCD, 21yrs UC mom of SCD 27 mos
