Guest guest
Don't mock the poor guy -- you can see in step 10 that he is so desperate that he is trying to have sex with a do-nut while scratching his chin in bafflement at these weird compulsions of his disease. This do-nut sex bit must be the secret they never told me. No wonder I could never get on program. . has a weirdly deformed disc shaped penis, which he is -- apparently of a a disc like >From: watts_pete@... >Reply-To: 12-step-freeegroups >To: 12-step-freeegroups >Subject: Re: Female 12 Steppers Pewter Figurines >Date: Fri, 18 Aug 2000 23:42:31 -0000 > >Check out the male ones. > >http://www.wayoflife.com/steppers/male.htm > >A couple of them look like he's trying to pee in a cup and Step 9 >looks like he is staggering to stay on his feet. Guest guest
Dear Jim, web-site plug time, but if you like satire at XA's expense, try http://www.geocities.com/bouglaf/aa.html -- the following two pages also contain 12step satire oriented stuff. I don't think there's anything funny about atom bombs or XA, but humour is a way of stating . . . Guest guest
The most striking aspect of both sets of figurines is the agony, and by default, the lack of joy. Whatever happened to 'The joy is in the journey'? It almost looks like the creator of these figurines is anti-12-step....I couldn't have done a better job myself! Excuse me, but after seeing these I think I need to go stand in the street and bark at the moon. Couldn't be any crazier that the individual who dreamed up these tchotchkes. Ohhhh, these are simply *ghastly*...gloriously so, in fact.
Guest guest
I wondered the same thing myself, meditating at a podium--what's up with that? Maybe there's a special premium after a certain number of years, like for 10 years you don't get a chip, you get a podium. A porta-podium in case you take your show on the road. judith > > Notice in both sets where you finally make it...meditating > or preaching from a podium. > Who the hell meditates at a podium anyway? > > > >From: " Jim " <wn115@v...> > >Reply-To: 12-step-freeegroups > >To: <12-step-freeegroups> > >Subject: Re: Re: Female 12 Steppers Pewter Figurines > >Date: Fri, 18 Aug 2000 15:46:49 -0600 > > > >You guys are killing me! :-) I went to the site (funny enough), but now > >I've > >bust a stitch. I remember a few speakers who would, the moment they stepped to the podium to tell their story, say a prayer that god speak through them, 'let me be your mouthpiece'. This was a 'standard' prayer, and there was a name for it (probably named after the Catholic saint who wrote it), but I forget what it is. But in this case forgetting is a good thing - this useless and trivial information has left my mind. ----- http://listen.to/benbradley
Guest guest
what i find facinating is they illustrate perfectly that the goal of aa isnt sobirety at all and is really about promoting AA. in both, there is no cear point where person gets sober and is reason people suppsoedly go into treatment to begin with. if we are to assume they get sober early on in steps becuase that is where metamorphsis in these figurines begins, then everything after is geared towards one end, making person a AA mouthpiece. no where do we see how being sober benefits them in any other area of life except in how effectivly they can promote bill wilson's program/cult

Hi sue I think thats a pretty stroing hint that prayer - and public at that - is what is intended. together with Step 10 it gives the strong hint that Church is thought like a Bachelors degree, and AA is where you get your PhD in spritituality. With these figures thay have pulled off a rare double - to be ridiculous and offensive at the same time. Pete
Guest guest
Yeah! It's true.....if you talk the talk, you are a guru.... People will come from miles around to hear you pontifcate the steps......I have heard many. But get them aside and listen to their lives...listen to how they are living them in the here and now....and gasp!!! If they are " walking " the talk, it does't get much better. They are still " working " it. Why the hell don't they just quit the B.S. You do or you don't If you're a thief, why is workin' the steps worth it if you only stole once today instead` of your usual three or four times....cause your`HPis workin in your `lifeand there is an improvement (6th step0 Yikes!! Guest guest
----- Original Message ----- > Notice in both sets where you finally make it...meditating > or preaching from a podium. > Who the hell meditates at a podium anyway? Adolph Hitler ;-) Seriously... He almost conquered the world by exploiting the talents of the many gifted Germans of that era in the fields of Science, Commerce, and military science, yet he himself was shockingly untalented--with one exception: public speaking. He would often start by meditating at the podium then staring out at the crowd speachless for a minute or two. People would say it was if his intense gaze was directed at them personaly....
